Happy International Women's Day!

Women lead across our Party, with nearly half our councillors and mayors, over half of our PCCs, and the most gender-representative group of the 2024 Parliament.

Gender equality will always be a cornerstone of the co-operative movement.

Little Loco’s Big Day!

A children’s book, written by Caroline Hardie and illustrated by John Pickin telling the tale of Stockton & Darlington Railway’s Locomotion No.1, has been published.

Nervous Little Loco pulls wonky wagons the opening day in 1825 and trouble brews when the wagons demand to be pulled by horses.

Cllrs Rob Yorke, George Smith and Jimmy Atkinson are aiming to purchase 2,000 copies of the book for youngsters at schools along the famous S&DR route.

Cllr Atkinson said: “This book is superb and a really good way for children to learn about the history and heritage of
where they live.”

INVITATION TO PARENTS & CARERS OF CHILDREN WITH SEND.

Lots of parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities have been in touch with me in recent weeks and months to raise concerns about education provision in County Durham.

Improving SEND provision is an important part of our mission to break down barriers to opportunity and I cause I am committed to championing are our area's MP.

We have an opportunity to submit evidence to an inquiry being held by the Education Select Committee in parliament. To that end, I am holding a roundtable discussion (with refreshments) in Bishop Auckland centre this Thursday evening (6th Feb) at 6:30pm.

For more details, and to register, please get in touch with my team by emailing [email protected]

If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to contribute your thoughts, please still get in touch and we will send you a short survey.

Jolly chilly morning in Evenwood today but we worked out quickly that the current county councillor does nothing much at all except remind us he was once a something or other and does nothing real locally.. His voters are fuming and cant work out who to kick, Vote Click here to read about someone who will put the time in for you rather than for themselves https://www.bishopaucklandlabour.org.uk/becky-land-for-evenwood/

Out and about with candidates and volunteers this very chilly morning in . Lots of casework picked up from people who seem to have been ignored by the current incumbent. A thank you to all the people who opened the door to us despite the chill. Many people still surprised that Durham County Council is currently run by an anti labour coalition. Change is coming. on May 1.

Grim that the parliamentary right see crime and antisocial behaviour as a "boring" or trivial matter. Underlines the extent of their wind lagging during the last 14 years of neglect

Special thanks to local farmers and Labour County Council candidates Simon & Becky Land and everyone who has served the community today clearing roads from Bishop to Crook. 🚜

Have you received your copy of the latest Making It Happen?

The round-up of what's happening across West Auckland Ward includes a special welcome to Toft Hill, Low Etherley, High Etherley, Spring Gardens and Phoenix Row ...who all form the new West Auckland Electoral Division from May 1st, 2025, following the Boundary Commission review.

Inclusion of these areas is a victory for common sense. Cllrs Rob Yorke and George Smith worked with residents to convince the Commission to reject Council plans for a three-seat “Superward”, covering the existing West Auckland Electoral Division as well as Toft Hill, Low Etherley, High Etherley, Phoenix Row, Evenwood, Cockfield, Bedburn, Headlam, Langleydale.

We branded those plans “geographically ridiculous", and the Commission agreed.

It was incredible that so many people came together to oppose them. Communities united and changed the Commission’s mind.
