Development work continues apace...

Work on a multi- million pound leisure development in Bishop Auckland is well underway.

The £40m Tindale development comprises a multiplex cinema, bowling and laser quest, a 24/7 gym, five restaurants, and a range of national retailers and local operators.

Simon Kirkby and Glynn Hollis of Clegg Construction Group; Michael Siddle, Mayor of Bishop Auckland; Cllr Rob Yorke; David Maddan, CEO The Auckland Project; David Land, Chair of Stronger Towns Fund, and Cllr George Smith met recently to review progress at the enormous site.

Fieldon Bridge Developments is driving the 150,000sqft retail and leisure park on the 14-acre site, to the east of Tindale retail park.

Owner and CEO, Chris Dacre, is funding the £40M scheme, which create 454 full time jobs. He said: “This is an exciting development and one we have been pushing to start for several years, we’ve endured Brexit and the Pandemic and I’m delighted we've been able to start and are making significant progress.

“Bishop Auckland offers a wealth of opportunities and we are heartened to see the Auckland Project spending over £200M in the town. We’ve had fantastic support from Cllr Rob Yorke and see Bishop Auckland as a key area of regeneration.”

Cllr Yorke said: “I am pleased work has finally begun. Bishop Auckland is undergoing transformational change with hundreds of millions being spent in the north end of the town and now we’re seeing a £40M development in the southern end. We welcome this investment and the new jobs it will create."

Cllr Smith said: “This is one of the most exciting projects to be delivered in Bishops Auckland in generations. With the outstanding heritage work spearheaded by The Auckland Project, regeneration underway across the area and now this – we can afford to be optimistic about the future.”
