A woman has been arrested following a number of assaults in Cheltenham town centre yesterday (Monday) and officers are appealing for any additional victims to come forward.

We were called with a report that an unknown woman had assaulted multiple members of the public between 1pm and 4pm.

Officers attended and following enquiries it was established that the woman had walked down High Street and grabbed a woman and her young child outside Poundland at around 1.10pm.

She then then proceeded to walk down the High Street and pushed over an elderly woman outside McDonald's. She is also believed to have kicked a man and taken someone's glasses before walking towards Marks and Spencer.

The woman then continued walking and punched a man in the face twice at the junction of Bath Road and Cedar Court Road.

A woman aged in her 30s and from Winchcombe was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with the incident. She remains in police custody at this time.

Several of the victims were identified, however investigating officers would like to speak to three people whose identities remain unknown: a jogger who was pushed over; a man who was kicked; and a person who potentially had their glasses taken.

Officers would also like to speak to anyone else who was targeted by the woman to come forward, so that their welfare can be checked and the investigation can progress.

We're appealing for dashcam footage of two vehicles following an incident near Sharpness Docks last week.

The incident, which involved a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van and a white BMW 320D, happened on Bridge Road between 8pm and 9.15pm on Friday 29 May.

It was reported that the driver of the van had initially given way to the car at a junction before subsequently overtaking it and slamming on the brakes.

Two men then exited the van and approached the car, with one of them smashing the driver's side window and the other smashing the passenger window.

They then attempted to open the doors of the car before the victim was able to drive away.

Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward. We're particularly keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of it.

It is understood that both parties knew each other.

A man in his 30s from the area was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police and quite occurrence 53260041004: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us/us/a-crime-that-has-already-been-reported/

A team of officers who did everything they could to save their colleague have been recognised with an award for Team of the Year.

The Ian Minett Shield for Team of the Year is presented in memory of PC Ian Minett, a response officer who died suddenly whilst on a night shift in June 2025. The Shield was presented on behalf of Ian’s family for the first time this year.

From a young age, it was Ian’s ambition to become a police officer. He joined the Force as a Special Constable in March 2006 and served with us for 13 years.

He had worked as a call handler in the Force Control Room at Thames Valley Police from April 2016, and then the Ministry of Defence Police from January 2019. Ian transferred to Gloucestershire Constabulary in March 2022, and his final role was working in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Local Policing Team as a response officer.

The night Ian died, his colleagues on B shift heroically did absolutely everything they could to try and save him. They are pictured below - PS Jessica Brown, PC Neil Williamson, Insp Rob Muhr, PC Jack Simcox and PS Craig Redman.

Paramedics arrived and also made gallant efforts to revive Ian, but tragically, nothing more could be done.

After his death, Ian's parents released the following statement: “We, as Ian’s parents, and family, are all very proud of his achievements within the police force. We take consolation in the fact that Ian died performing the job he loved, in the town he loved, and that he was well loved and respected by all who knew him and worked with him.

“Ian, we were privileged to have had you as our son, and we will keep your memories alive in our hearts and minds forever. PC 255080 we salute you.”

Ian’s colleagues remained on duty well into the morning after their shift ended and performed a guard of honour, standing alongside Ian’s family when he was carried from Holland House.

Their compassion, care and support for each other and Ian’s family on the night and thereafter makes them a credit to the Constabulary.

While heartbreakingly the thin blue line has got thinner, we are proud of our B shift colleagues for everything they have done for the policing family.

The team has all been through so much, and our thoughts remain with our colleagues and Ian’s family and friends.

Gloucestershire Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Impact Awards took place last month. The ceremony is designed to recognise the outstanding work of our officers, staff, volunteers and partner agencies who have gone the extra mile to make Gloucestershire a safe place to live.

As the warm weather continues, we'd like to remind those enjoying the sun to take extra care when considering swimming in open water.

The advice is to only do so as part of a club, where there is a lifeguard on duty or there are safety precautions in place and to not swim alone.

We know the warmer weather will inevitably see people flock to popular beauty spots to try and cool off - there are risks involved in swimming in deep, open water such as strong currents, submerged and hazardous objects and steep and uneven banks.

Underwater weeds can also be dangerous as they are difficult to swim through and can get tangled around limbs.

People are advised to stay out of rivers, reservoirs and other open water sources, and they are being discouraged from swimming in quarries as there is a risk of death, and the depth can change suddenly.

For those who want to try open water swimming safely, they are advised to visit an accredited or recognised venue where staff would be on-site to provide advice.

Advice includes:

- Never swim alone in case you need help
- Don't drink alcohol before going in the water as it impairs judgement and your ability to swim
- Avoid walking routes near water if you have been drinking alcohol
- Don't dive or jump straight into open water as it can potentially cause fatal cold water shock
- Talk to young people in your care about the dangers of entering water, actively supervise children in and around water
- If you find yourself unexpectedly in the water, don't panic – extend your arms and legs out and float on your back until the effect of cold water shock passes
- Never enter the water to try to rescue someone; call 999 and ask for the fire service if inland, and the Coastguard if you are on the coast.

☀️ Warm weather is on the way… but open water isn’t always safe

When temperatures rise, rivers, lakes and other open water can look inviting — but they can be far more dangerous than they seem.
🚫 Please avoid entering open water unless you're at a supervised swimming area.
Even strong swimmers can get into difficulty. Cold water shock, strong currents and hidden hazards can affect anyone, often in seconds.

💧 Stay cool the safe way:
🍹 Relax in the shade with a cold drink
💨 Use a fan or mist spray
🏊 Visit a local pool with lifeguards
💦 Wear light clothing and stay hydrated

❤️ Let’s enjoy the sunshine safely and look out for each other.
