Amesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team officers carried out a multi-agency operation this morning in Amesbury Town Centre, working in conjunction with Immigration Enforcement & Control and Wiltshire Council Trading Standards.

Six business premises were visited, with relevant checks caried out on fifteen people located working at these sites. No criminal offences were identified and all employees present were found to have either valid U.K Residence Cards, Refugee Status and/or Permits to Work.

🚨 Vehicle Crime Prevention🚨

Over the past week, we have been receiving increasing reports relating to thefts from vans.

Vans are often a target for vehicle crime, and we want to help you stay protected! Here are some of our essential tips to help keep your vehicle and belongings secure:

🔐 Locking your vehicle: Ensure that all doors and windows to the vehicle are locked before leaving your vehicle. Double check your doors!

🅿️ Park Smart: When able, park your vehicle in a well-lit busy area or a secure location such as a garage. This deters thieves as they often refrain from operating in highly visible areas

🛠️ Removing valuables: Refrain from leaving any tools or equipment within your van, and consider removing expensive items overnight

📱 Implementing Security Measures: Consider adding further security measures such as steering locks, alarms, immobilisers and trackers. These measures often deter thieves from targeting your vehicle but they can also assist in recovering stolen vehicles.

🔑 Accessibility: Make sure that you place your vehicles keys away from any vulnerable places. Items such as a Faraday Pouch can be purchased which blocks any keyless entry systems being compromised

🗣️ Reporting: If you notice any suspicious activity or behaviour around a vehicle, report this immediately. You can do this on our reporting webpage (https://orlo.uk/P3dUk), calling the non-emergency 101 number, or if there is an emergency, it's always 999.

JAILED

A man from Amesbury has been jailed for ra**ng a woman in her own home.

Ben Churcher, 22, of Muggleton Road, Amesbury, was given a 28 month sentence on January 31 at Salisbury Crown Court.

He will be on the s*x offenders register for 10 years and a restraining order prohibits him from contacting the victim for five years.

Churcher r**ed his victim in 2020 and she lived in silence for a year before reporting the incident to the police in 2021.

During this year, the victim thought about su***de and felt as though she couldn't talk to anyone about what had happened.

In a statement read to the court, Churcher's victim said: "I felt dirty in my own skin and couldn't handle feeling so alone anymore.

"My family suffered too - they worry about me and my future. They worry about leaving me at home."

Churcher was found guilty following a trial which concluded on November 27, 2024. This trial left his victim unable to sleep, focus and work as it brought all the trauma he caused her back.

The victim said: "I have spent years in fear that Ben would come after me due to his threats.

"I repeatedly had his friends and family call me a liar and I felt like I couldn't step outside my house most days.

"Ben spent so long telling me that no-one would ever believe me but I finally feel I now have closure and people know the truth."

Detective Constable Deborah Laycock said: "I'd like to thank the victim in this case for showing an enormous amount of bravery and fortitude throughout the process of bringing Churcher to justice.

“Anyone who has been a victim of a s*xual offence is urged to report it to us. We will help you and continue to put perpetrators before the courts."

We are asking Wiltshire residents to fill out a questionnaire relating to burglary and home security. The purpose of this is to assess the knowledge residents across Wiltshire have about home security and burglary prevention. Any gaps in knowledge which are identified by the questionnaire data will be addressed in upcoming videos, which will be shared via official Wiltshire Police social media channels.

Lisa Dr**er from Wiltshire Police’s Neighbourhood Harm Reduction Unit said: “We would like to understand how we can best support our communities with targeted crime prevention advice. In doing this, we hope to provide relevant content which helps people protect their homes and prevent them from being a victim of burglary.”

There are eight questions in total, and it should take less than five minutes to complete. The questionnaire is now live, and residents are encouraged to submit their responses before 9am on Friday 3 February. To fill out the questionnaire, click here: https://orlo.uk/j7jnC
