⚠️ Never place batteries in either the refuse or recycling bin! 🔋⚠️

Batteries contain toxic chemicals which can ignite if damaged inside the collection vehicle or recycling facility. 🔥🔥

✅ Please recycle any used batteries via our separate kerbside collection: https://bit.ly/3JI5eM9. Alternatively a number of local supermarkets have dedicated battery recycling containers. If this isn't an option then please dispose at your nearest recycling centre.

Don't let your recycling efforts go down the pan! ♻️👎

This item was placed at the bottom (no pun intended) of a communal recycling bin and picked out at the sorting facility. I mean we thought it pretty obvious 🤫- but if anyone's ever unsure if an item is recyclable or not then please play safe and leave it out of the recycling bin!

We are investigating a fly-tipping incident reported on Sunday, June 16, on Steppingley Road in Flitwick. Our officers have examined the waste and found evidence linking some of it to an address in Luton. They have also conducted door-to-door inquiries in the area where the waste was dumped.

The resident at the linked address has been contacted and claims that someone else was responsible for removing the waste. The investigation is ongoing.

We are appealing to the public for any information that could help us identify the fly-tipper. The waste was dumped between Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June.

If you have any details or CCTV footage, please contact our team on 0300 300 4228 or email [email protected]

16/06/2024

We have issued a stark reminder about the importance of ensuring waste is collected and disposed of by licensed professionals after a major fly-tipping incident on the A1 in Beeston, was traced back to a Bedford property renovation.
On 7 December 2022, we received a report of a fly-tipping incident involving a van load of waste dumped on the northbound slip road of the A1 in Beeston.
Following an investigation the waste was traced back to Apex Property Services LLP, a company engaged in renovation work on a property in Bedford.
The investigation revealed that Apex Property Services LLP had encountered difficulties in arranging skips for the removal of waste created by the renovation. As a result, they enlisted Mr Slaine Caulfield of Windmill Close, Bedford, to manage the waste disposal.
At the time, Mr Caulfield was abroad, and he delegated the task to Mr Sayed Shah of Melbourne Street, Bedford, who in turn, hired another individual to remove the waste, which was subsequently fly-tipped. Unfortunately, no waste transfer notes or invoices were provided, and neither Mr Caulfield nor Mr Shah conducted the necessary due diligence enquires to ensure the waste was disposed of lawfully.
Mr Caulfield and Mr Shah attended Luton Magistrates Court and both pleaded guilty to breaching Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which sets out the legal duty of care required for the proper disposal of waste.
Mr Caulfield was fined £1,041, with additional costs of £665 and a victim surcharge of £416. Mr Shah was fined £616, with additional costs of £665 and a victim surcharge of £246.
Apex Property Services LLP, acknowledging the circumstances and their involvement, accepted a £600 fixed penalty notice for failing to produce a transfer note for the waste.
Residents can help us reduce this type of crime by reporting incidents on our website www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/reportit, by calling 0300 300 8302, or by emailing [email protected].
