We’re lighting up the Civic Centre in purple this evening to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.

Today is about remembering the people we’ve lost, supporting families and friends who are grieving. It’s also a chance for us to come together as a community, show compassion and help raise awareness about the support that’s available.

Parents and carers - please help keep our school gates safe at pick up and drop times.

• Never park on zig zags, pavements, yellow lines or dropped kerbs.
• Keep school entrances and pedestrian crossing points clear at all times.
• Switch off your engine to reduce pollution around the school.
• Consider 'park and stride' or other sustainable transport options to ease congestion.
• Be patient, drive slowly, and respect local residents.

Small choices make a big difference to children’s safety and our school communities.

A great day for a great cause

Provost Kenneth Duffy was delighted to support the Tommy Gemmell Community Project’s annual charity golf day at Wishaw Golf Club today. It was a fantastic day bringing together friends and the community, while raising money for projects in the local area and helping continue Tommy’s legacy.

Provost Duffy said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people coming together in Tommy’s name and for the benefit of the community. Days like this show that his legacy really is about much more than a statue, it’s about people supporting people.”

Congratulations to everyone who took part, everyone who donated and supported the day, and the organisers who worked so hard to make it a success.
