Officers from Inverness and the Dingwall Road Policing Unit were assisting a broken down vehicle that was stranded in the live lane on the A9 dual carriageway earlier.

While already trying to help the stranded motorist, officers had to stop a car due to the excessive speed it approached the lane closure. Cannabis could be smelled from inside the vehicle, so the driver was required to provide saliva and breath samples, and subsequently failed the drug wipe for cannabis. A small quantity of herbal cannabis was also found in his car.

He will be reported in due course for the offences of careless driving, possession of cannabis and driving while over the prescribed limit of cannabis. What is especially concerning is that the driver had his young children in the car as well.

You must slow down when approaching lane closures, emergency services or workers on the road.

Officers are appealing for the help of the public to trace Natasha Reid, 15, who has been reported missing from North Kessock.

From enquiries carried out so far, it is believed Natasha may have been in the Drovers Way area of Milton, Easter Ross, on Friday, 29 May, around 5.40pm. She may have since travelled to Carrbridge.

Natasha has been described as around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, with blue eyes and long black hair with blonde highlights. When last seen she was wearing black and leopard print top, black shorts and blue Adidas Samba shoes.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Johnston said: “Concerns are growing for Natasha’s welfare, and we are keen to trace her to make sure she is safe.

“I’d ask that anyone with information, or who has seen someone matching Natasha’s description, get in touch with officers.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0063 of 28 May, 2026.

Police in Fort William are investigating damage to the historical ruins of Old Inverlochy Castle. On at least two occasions between 5th May - 14th May 2026 and 19th May - 25th May 2026, the security fencing surrounding the castle has been damaged and breached and part of the structure of the castle walls also been damaged.
This site is currently sealed off to the public due to the building being unsafe, therefore gaining entry poses a risk to members of the public and should be avoided at all costs.

Whilst on patrols in Merkinch this morning we came across this four year old black Labrador-Retriever wearing a tartan collar near Quayside Court. Unfortunately he has no name tag and his microchip is still registered to the breeder. Please stay safe when enjoying water sports this summer. Although the air temperatures may be warm, the water rarely is. Cold water shock can trigger involuntary gasps of air and rapid uncontrollable breathing which makes it difficult to keep your airways clear and stay afloat. If you find yourself unexpectedly in water, remember FLOAT TO LIVE! lie on your back, submerge your ears slightly below the water and extend your arms and legs out in a starfish shape.

To stay safe, follow this easy advice:

⛵ Avoid going alone, and if you do then tell someone where you are going and how long for.
⛵Wear an appropriate wetsuit/drysuit and lifejacket/buoyancy aid
🏊 Enter the water slowly to allow your body to acclimatise
🏊Use a brightly coloured swim cap and tow float when open water swimming
📱Call 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD for emergencies at sea, on the coast or on Loch Ness. Ask for the police for all inland search and rescue.

PD Maverick, a 1 year old Belgian Malinois, recently completed a 13 week General Patrol Dog Initial Course with this handler. They are now deploying throughout the Highlands to support front line Policing.

It was standing room only at the Retailers Against Crime (RAC) Inverness Intelligence Briefing held at the Eastgate Shopping Centre on Wednesday, 27 May.

Representatives from local and national retailers, Inverness City Centre BID, Eastgate Centre, The Highland Council, Police Scotland and other partner agencies, all received information on the current offending picture in the city and learned how RAC can support information sharing on retail crime.

Our were represented by Inspector Emma Wright and Detective Sergeant Pauline McGowan, who spoke to attendees about how the Taskforce is supporting their area.

Inverness BID also shared information on how they support and co-ordinate local schemes to help city centre businesses tackle retail crime together.

Officers from Inverness Local Area Command and the City Centre Policing Team also joined to learn more and speak with local retailers and partners.

Inspector Wright said: “This was the best attended briefing to date in Inverness. It was great to be able to meet with numerous businesses and stakeholders to discuss how we collectively strengthen the approach to Retail Crime in Inverness.

“The Taskforce looks forward to working collectively with RAC and local partners on initiatives to continue to reduce retail offences and make Inverness an even safer place for both shoppers and retail staff.”

Officers from Police Scotland’s North Highland Road Policing Unit have concluded a high-visibility enforcement and engagement visit to Orkney.
Operation CEDAR, which ran between Wednesday, 20th May and Sunday, 24th May saw road policing officers working in close partnership with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The initiative focused on improving road safety, addressing anti-social driving behaviour, and ensuring commercial and private vehicle roadworthiness across the islands.
During the operation, a total of 70 vehicles were stopped and inspected, including 37 cars, 19 Light Goods Vehicles, 12 Heavy Goods Vehicles/Passenger Carrying Vehicles and 2 motorcycles.
The multi-agency checks resulted in 25 immediate vehicle prohibitions for mechanical or safety defects and 27 motorists being reported for offences including;

➡️ Vehicle in Dangerous Condition
➡️ No Insurance
➡️ Construction and use defects

Sgt Neil MacDonald said “Operation CEDAR builds on established practices and will continue to focus on various agencies working in partnership to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured. It involves proactive multi-agency enforcement operations on the roads, which sits alongside education activity aimed at improving driver behaviour of all ages.
Road policing officers engage with the public every day, using visibility and enforcement to challenge dangerous driving and influence driver behaviour. Our focus remains on education and enforcement to ensure that all road users think about their actions and respect the safety of others.
Safe road use is a shared responsibility, and by combining targeted enforcement with direct community engagement, our goal is to significantly reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on Scotland’s roads."

Officers are appealing for information after tyres of a tractor and two muck spreaders were damaged on the Iochdar Machair.

The incident happened between 6pm on Sunday, 10 May and 10.30am on Monday, 11 May, 2026.

Enquiries are ongoing and we are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0377 of 13/05/2026.
