✨ This week at one of our Extra Care Housing sites, Waverley Gardens, located in Bishopsworth, had another fantastic evening hosting a Chinese Night — the food was absolutely delicious and the site is already looking forward to the next one 🍜🥢

In other news, it’s also been wonderful to see the Tiny Treasures baby & toddler group continuing to grow, and the site also enjoyed a special celebration at Inns Court Community Centre, marking 35 years of Sprint and 25 years of Angela — such incredible milestones! 🎉

And finally, a big shoutout to Jeremy for winning the weekly Waverley Gardens' quiz 🏆👏

It's all been happening at Waverley Gardens. Find out more about the site here: https://www.brunelcare.org.uk/locations/waverley-gardens/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23483535315&gbraid=0AAAAADfOrfvNgBD05xC7Ca7OQe7XHizWh&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzdO0kaaQlAMV_J9oCR3w7xsREAAYASAAEgKWvPD_BwE

Brunelcare's Woodland Court Retirement Village was delighted to welcome local MP Damien Egan last week.

Residents had the opportunity to sit down with Damien and discuss a range of current political issues 🗳️, as well as share their experiences of living in a retirement village. Topics included the state pension 💷, changes to local hospital services, the cost of living, council tax, and TV licence charges 📺.

A big thank you to Damien for taking the time to visit and engage in such an open and valuable discussion with our Brunelcare community 🙌💬.

🌟 Brunelcare's Extra Care Housing Sites Wins Bristol Eating Better Award 🌟

We are pleased to announce that our Extra Care Housing (ECH) sites have been recognised with the Bristol Eating Better Award from Bristol City Council 🏆

Both Colliers Gardens and Waverley Gardens have achieved Gold status 🥇, while the ABC Centre has been awarded Silver 🥈.

This achievement reflects a significant team effort across all sites. From improving recycling and waste processes to redesigning menus with a stronger focus on fresh, home-cooked meals, everyone has played an important role. Our sites now also provide more detailed information for tenants, including allergens, calorie counts, portion sizes, and alternative dessert options.

We have also made great progress in reducing or removing salt, fat, and sugar where possible, replacing them with healthier alternatives, and have significantly reduced processed items across our menus.

Our ECH sites are proud to provide full provenance for fresh produce through our nominated suppliers and are currently transitioning to a biochemical system to further support environmental sustainability.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fantastic achievement 💙

🎶 A Wonderful Afternoon at Saffron Gardens Care Home! 🎉💛

Saffron Gardens had such a lovely time today enjoying live entertainment from the amazing Siobhan, whose beautiful singing brought so much joy to the residents. 🎤✨ The room was filled with smiles, music, and truly special moments.

To make the day even more memorable, the home celebrated not one but two birthdays — a big happy birthday to the wonderful Diana and Sue! 🎂🎈 Everyone came together to celebrate, and it was clear just how much the occasion meant to all.

It was a heart-warming afternoon full of laughter, music, and celebration — moments like these are what make our community so special. 💐😊.

Another day, another fantastic Deaf awareness session. This time with the wonderful team at Saffron Gardens, Brunelcare.

It was a real pleasure to see how engaged everyone was. Such an inquisitive group, with thoughtful questions and genuine curiosity throughout, exactly what these sessions are all about.

At Centre for Deaf, we’re dedicated to improving the quality of life for Deaf and hard of hearing people, both across the city and beyond. Breaking down barriers starts with conversations like these, which is why delivering sessions to a wide range of organisations is so important to us.

A huge thank you to Brunelcare for inviting us in and for your commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible environment.

Another lovely week at our Saffron Gardens Care Home 💖

The residents have been enjoying a range of activities, from getting creative with Easter crafts to sharing laughs over board games with the wonderful students from City of Bristol College 🐰🎉

The Memory Café was full of special moments and smiles, and residents also stayed active with a gentle seated keep-fit session to keep everyone moving and feeling great. 🪑💪

To finish the week on a high, the home, located in Whitehall, held a fun Easter bingo where four of our lucky residents won delicious Easter eggs 🍫🥚 congratulations to all the winners!

It’s always a joy to share these special moments with the residents and see the community come together. 💕

🎉 Celebrating 20 Years of Community at Colliers Gardens! 🎉

This week, Colliers Gardens, one of our Extra Care Housing sites in Fishponds, proudly marked 20 years of care, connection and community 💛.

They were honoured to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant of Bristol, Peaches Golding OBE, who joined tenants, families and colleagues for a very special anniversary celebration.

🎺 The festivities kicked off with a brilliant brass band performance and will continue with a intergenerational school visit, a buffet, and a grand party to round off the celebrations.

Colliers Gardens first opened in March 2006, with a visit from Princess Anne. Among those she met was Mary, now 93, who still lives at Colliers Gardens today, along with two other original tenants, Anne, 85 and Mrs Ho, 86. 🌟

Built on former allotments, Colliers Gardens has grown into a thriving hub in Fishponds, a place where older people can live independently while enjoying friendship, activities and high‑quality care 🌿🏡.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not just marking two decades of care, we’re honouring the incredible community that makes Colliers Gardens such a special place to call home. A huge thank you to the Colliers Gardens team for working tirelessly to arrange such a special week of events for our tenants and guests❤️

What a lovely day our Saffron Gardens Care Home residents had yesterday — even the weather was on their side ☀️

They took some of their residents to St George’s Park 👩‍🌾 where they fed the ducks and enjoyed the fresh air together.

To top it all off, they stopped for a relaxing cup of tea and coffee afterwards☕️

Meet John – our incredible toy maker at Glastonbury Care Home 🐒🪵

John, 91, a resident at Glastonbury Care Home, has spent an amazing 1,200 hours (the equivalent of 100 days!) handcrafting more than 300 wooden monkey toys to raise money for the home and the local Men’s Shed in Walton where he makes them.

Twice a week, John attends the Men’s Shed, where he spends around four hours carefully crafting each monkey. He sells them for £2 each at the home and at Men’s Shed, and also donates some to local charity shops, helping spread smiles while supporting great causes.

John said: “I really enjoy going to Men’s Shed, it keeps my mind and hands busy and I love the banter. The team at Glastonbury Care Home are fantastic and always make sure I have a big packed lunch to take with me.”

Our Home Manager, Nisha, added: “John is such a joy to care for. We love displaying his monkeys at reception for people to buy, and he’s always checking if any have sold!”

What an inspiring way to keep doing what you love while giving back to the community. 💛
