St. Margaret's Church was built and in use by 1245 and stands in Windsor street just off the High Street. The oldest portion of the existing building is part of the north tower, which was built in the late 14th century.

The tiles that were used in the chapel were created by Minton Hollis & co. in the 1840s. They were designed by Gothic architect Augustus Pugin, who designed the interior of the Houses of Parliament, and it’s clock tower known more commonly as Big Ben.

Haydon Hall in #Eastcote was built in 1630 at the request of Dowager Countess Lady Alice of Harefield Place as a way of protecting her finances from a detestable son-in-law!

Haydon Hall had various owners over 380 years when it was finally owned by the Ruislip-Northwood Urban District Council by the time of the Second World War.

Harlington Parish Church!
Anyone work at the Nestle Factory back in the day? Eager to talk about what it was like before this development:
Interesting leaflet.
If you would like to hear about the true story of the Denham Murders of 1870, author Neil Watson is doing an illustrated talk at the Uxbridge Library on Friday 2nd November at 7.30m. Much of the story takes place in Uxbridge, where the murderer lodged in the Bell Yard, before and after coming out of prison. You will hear details during the talk of the ballad that was sung in Uxbridge High Street at the time of the murder. Copies of the book will be available. The talk is free but as the library like to know numbers, you should reserve your seat by emailing them or calling them on........ 01895 250714 or emailing [email protected] Pictured below is the front page from the Illustrated Police News, the murderers lodging in Uxbridge and the front cover of the book. The book has been very popular as have previous talks that have been given on the subject. See you there!
BOOK LAUNCH Wednesday 28 March 2018. Calling all fans of Victorian Murder. The waiting is almost over, the Denham Massacre book is now less than 3 weeks away! The books are currently being printed and will be arriving in time for the big day. The Launch 'party' will be taking place in the village of Denham at the Denham Village Hall, a venue half way between the scene of the murder, and St Mary's Church where the funeral and burials took place following the murder of 7 innocents souls by John Owen in 1870. Everyone is welcome to attend the launch, no booking or ticket is required, just turn up. The new book will be available to buy on the night. There will also be an illustrated talk about the history of the murders and how the book came to be published. Please come along. The evening starts at 7.30pm It promises to be an interesting evening. If you cant make the launch night, then the books can be ordered from 28 March on Amazon in book or kindle formats, or from the publishers direct at Mango Books. See you in Denham on the 28th
Calling all fans of Victorian Murder. A major new book is about to be published on 28th March. Neil Watson’s forthcoming book is entitled β€œThe Denham Massacre: Nineteenth-century Britain's Most Shocking House of Horror Murders” In May 1870, seven members of the Marshall family, including three small children, were found brutally murdered in their home in Denham, Buckinghamshire. They had all been bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer, an axe and a poker. The crime scene looked like a battlefield or a slaughterhouse. In THE DENHAM MASSACRE, retired Metropolitan police officer Neil Watson provides the first full-length study of this sensational but largely forgotten Victorian murder case. He carefully reconstructs the events leading up to the crimes and their aftermath, and describes in detail the police investigation and the eventual arrest of the suspect John Owen, an armed and dangerous criminal with a long record of petty offending. Following a day-long trial, Owen was convicted of the capital crimes and executed at Aylesbury Gaol by the notorious hangman William Calcraft. The Denham Massacre stands as one of the most shocking and disturbing cases of mass murder in British criminal history. Based on years of original research into the case, and drawing on his experience as a serving police officer, Neil Watson takes us unforgettably to the very heart of a real-life Victorian murder mystery. It is a gripping, provocative read. THE DENHAM MASSACRE will be published on March 2018. http://www.mangobooks.co.uk/book.php?b=31
