A Met Office Amber Heat Health Alert is in place until 17:00 Wednesday 27th May 2026.

An amber alert would represent a situation in which the expected impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service, with potential for the whole population to be at risk and where other sectors apart from health may also start to observe impacts, indicating that a coordinated response is required. In addition, in some circumstances a National Severe Weather Warning Service (NSWWS) Extreme Heat warning may be issued in conjunction with and aligned to the Heat Health Alert. This situation would indicate that significant impacts are expected across multiple sectors.
View details of the warning on the Weather Health Alerts site.
Hot weather can affect your health. The people most likely to be affected are the elderly, the very young, and people with pre-existing medical conditions.

If you know or look after someone that may be susceptible to the effects of this hot weather period please help make sure that they stay cool and well, and if possible check in advance that they are prepared for this hot spell.
Please follow this advice to keep cool and comfortable and reduce health risks:
· Shut windows and pull down the shades when it is hotter outside. If it's safe, open them for ventilation when it is cooler.

· Avoid the heat: stay out of the sun and don't go out between 11am and 3pm (the hottest part of the day).

· Keep rooms cool by using shades or reflective material outside the windows. If this isn't possible, use light-coloured curtains and keep them closed (metallic blinds and dark curtains can make the room hotter).

· Have cool baths or showers, and splash yourself with cool water.

· Drink cold drinks regularly, such as water and fruit juice. Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol.

· Plan ahead to make sure you have enough supplies, such as food, water and any medications you need.

· Identify the coolest room in the house so you know where to go to keep cool.

Wear loose, cool clothing and a hat if you go outdoors.

📣 Wadhurst Annual Parish Assembly – Tomorrow Evening
Wadhurst Parish Council is looking forward to welcoming residents to the Annual Parish Assembly tomorrow, Thursday 30 April, from 7–9pm at the Commemoration Hall.
This important event in the parish calendar is a great opportunity to meet local community groups, speak with parish councillors, and hear about the work taking place across Wadhurst. The evening will follow the same popular and friendly format as last year, with informal stands and displays from a wide range of local organisations, including cultural, environmental, sporting, wellbeing and volunteer-led groups.
Parish Councillors will be available throughout the evening to discuss current projects, priorities and plans, and to answer questions. A cheese and wine reception will also be provided.
Whether you are new to Wadhurst or have lived here for many years, we warmly encourage you to come along, learn more about village life and get involved in the community.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Deadline looming for postal and proxy applications ahead of election

(Sharing on behalf of Wealden District Council)

With less than a month until Election Day, Wealden residents wanting to vote, and are out of the country or away from home are being reminded to apply for a postal or proxy vote.

A postal or proxy vote can be used if residents wanting to vote will be away from home, on holiday or their job doesn’t allow for them to be able to get to a polling station, which are open from 7am-10pm, on election day.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm 21 April and new postal packs will be despatched to residents 27 April. It is important to note that a person with a postal vote will not be able to vote at a polling station, even if they do not use their postal vote.

Proxy vote deadline for application is 28 April 2026.

Residents voting in person at a polling station will need to show photo ID, as this is now law. All accepted forms of ID are below. https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id.

If Wealden residents do not have one of the accepted IDs, they can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate or complete a paper form and submit it to Wealden District Council. The deadline to apply to use the Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on 28 April

Apply for photo ID to vote (Voter Authority Certificate) in some elections and referendums in Great Britain if you do not have an accepted form of ID.
