💛 Loneliness Awareness Week 💛

Did you know that 16% of older people often feel forgotten?

Forgotten by society.
Forgotten by their community.
Sometimes, simply feeling invisible.

For many older people, loneliness isn't just about being alone—it's about feeling that nobody notices, nobody checks in, and nobody cares.

That's where our incredible befriending volunteers make such a difference.

A regular phone call, a friendly visit, a shared cup of tea, or simply taking the time to listen can remind someone that they matter.

Our Befriending Service creates meaningful friendships between volunteers and older people across the Wakefield District, helping to reduce loneliness and bring connection, companionship, and joy.

Right now, there are older people waiting for a befriender.

Could you be the person who helps someone feel remembered?

By giving just a little of your time, you could make a life-changing difference to someone who feels alone.

💙 Join our befriending team.
💙 Help tackle loneliness.
💙 Help someone feel valued, seen, and connected.

Fraudsters are everywhere!

They make it their full time job to try and get YOUR money!

Be alert to unknown senders of emails, unknown callers and unusual text messages, and do not send any money to people who contact you directly.

Legitimate organisations will encourage you to ring their main office back to confirm details, fraudsters will try and talk you out of it.

There is no harm in ending a call from someone you do not know and then using the telephone number from official paperwork (not the person on the phone) to confirm the situation.

Check and double check.

Fraudsters only have to be lucky once, you have to be lucky every time.

If in doubt put the phone down and make your own enquiries.

Be Money Smart.

More wraparound childcare places have become available for primary school aged children.

Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare.

This usually runs from 8am until 6pm, during term time, either on a school site or another local setting such as a community centre, a nursery, or a childminder.

This is different from after school clubs.

To find out what you're eligible for, contact our Early Years Team on 0800 587 8042. Email [email protected] or visit the link in the comments.

👶 Infant Mental Health Week 🌱

This year’s theme is ‘attunement’ — being able to tune in and connect with others on an emotional level. It’s important for everyone, but especially for babies and the people who care for them.

The first years of life build the foundation for a child’s emotional wellbeing. Strong, nurturing relationships make all the difference.

Our FREE Togetherness online pathways are here to support parents and carers to connect, understand and respond to their baby’s needs with confidence.
