Who is responsible for the Walsall Borough Local Plan?

We joined local residents outside Walsall Town Hall last night to stand up for our precious Green Belt and the strength of feeling was impossible to ignore 🌳🍃

There was a fantastic turnout, with residents coming together to make it clear that they are deeply concerned about the future of our green spaces and the impact further development could have on our communities and infrastructure.

The Reform Council now needs to stand up to the Labour Government, listen to the strength of feeling across Walsall and send a strong message that our Green Belt cannot simply be sacrificed.

We will continue to stand alongside residents and fight to protect the green spaces that make up our Borough 🌳

It is misleading for Reform UK to claim the previous Conservative administration signed off on adding these Green Belt sites to the Local Plan.

The Conservatives oversaw the consultation process and considered the findings. The finalised plan did not come to Cabinet for decision-making until after the local elections, when Reform took control of the Council.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦’𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧.

They cannot tell residents “we don’t want to build on Green Belt” while blaming everyone else for a plan their own administration is now progressing.

If Reform genuinely opposes these sites, they should have the courage to challenge the Labour Government and say so.

But most importantly, Reform UK need to be honest with residents and be accountable for the decisions they are making now. You cannot take control of the Council, make the decisions and then try to blame the previous administration when residents understandably question the outcome.

The Conservatives have consistently campaigned against Labour’s planning policies and fought to protect Walsall’s Green Belt against Governments of all colours. This has never been about party politics - it is about protecting our communities, roads, infrastructure and green spaces.

Own your decisions. Own your plan. Be honest with residents. Stand up for Walsall’s Green Belt.

This country doesn't need stunts from this Government and its new Prime Minister. We may have a new face in Number 10, but it needs to be focussed on the issues which matter to hard working families across Aldridge-Brownhills.

The Prime Minister has now opened up Number 10 North - the office in the North of England which won't do anything for the issues and concerns which matter to all of us!

That is why I have written to the Prime Minister to end Labour’s huge housing target on the residents of Aldridge-Brownhills which will destroy our precious Green Belt!

This Labour Government insists on a new target of increasing housing in our community by 31%. This is unacceptable to me, and it is unacceptable to the residents of Aldridge-Brownhills.

Why are we being asked to do the heavy lifting for Birmingham? The Prime Minister must answer some key questions as to why Birmingham and Manchester are being let off the hook and Aldridge-Brownhills is being made to do the heavy lifting! - This doesn't seem fair to me, and I know it is not fair to all of you!

We all know this is wrong and please, Prime Minister Burnham, answer my letter and confirm your Government's position on your policy for the Green Belt and Grey Belt.

Let me assure all of the residents of Aldridge-Brownhills that together we will protect our precious Green Belt!

I have officially written to the Chief Executive of Walsall Council to register my strongest possible objection to this latest, unacceptable assault on our precious Green Belt on land at Queslett Road between Aldridge Road and Doe Bank Lane.

Make no mistake: this planning consultation is yet another attempt to bulldoze our local identity, merge our historic communities, and slowly drag us into a 'Greater Birmingham' sprawl.

Local voices are being systematically sidelined in favour of centralised, Whitehall-style targets that put developers first. I refuse to let Aldridge-Brownhills become a dumping ground for unsustainable, top-down housebuilding. I have always said we need the right houses in the right places.

We will not let outside political targets dictate the future of our community. The council's Planning Portal is finally working again. Please, make your voice heard and lodge your objection today. Please ensure that you get your comments into the Council - the link is below.

Let's send a powerful and unified message that our Green Belt is NOT for sale!

Today we said goodbye to Keith Sears.

Keith was a stalwart of Walsall Council for over 50 years and represented Aldridge North and Walsall Wood for 46 years.

My entry into politics has only been recent, but Keith and I worked alongside one another for the last few months, and I know how well respected and liked he was across our whole community.

RIP Keith – we will miss you!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Councillor Keith Sears.

Keith was a stalwart of Walsall politics - a man who dedicated 50 years to serving the residents of Aldridge North and Walsall Wood and the Borough of Walsall.

Those who knew Keith knew he was loyal, passionate and full of energy. His kindness and jolly nature was loved by all. Having been the Mayor of Walsall from 1994-1995, his commitment to his civic role was commendable.

He wasn’t a man of many words, but when he spoke he was well worth listening to.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Keith’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

I recently spoke out against fly-tippers and those who drop litter, creating a blight on our local communities. It’s time for stronger action against those who think our streets and country lanes are a dumping ground!

While Conservative-run Walsall Council is leading the way and already getting tough on this issue, deploying new CCTV in hotspots and issuing fines to those responsible. I believe the Government needs to take action and go further - that’s why I spoke up in Parliament last week to fully support measures such as adding points to the driving licenses of those caught fly-tipping.

More must be done!
