The next step in the new food and garden waste service will focus on residents living in flats and be rolled out in June. It will involve:
Phase 2 – Flats with an existing communal green-lidded food waste bin – starting June 2026
Phase 3 – Flats without a communal food waste bin – starting July to August 2026

Talk about a change in the weather, it was raining when I was outside the Leisure Centre a few weeks ago. I wont be available for the next couple of week due to personal reasons.

Waltham Abbey Fire Station has not been available for several incidents recently, this is because it is an on-call fire station, with firefighters responding to calls from home or their workplace. This means they do not always have the resources available when needed, but Essex County Fire and Rescue will always ensure that sufficient cover is available by mobilising other firefighters. There is an ongoing recruitment programme for on-call firefighters at Waltham Abbey, see here:

The Men's Shed were hard at work this week building a new bug hotel, there is more work to do before this can be placed in the Museum garden. There were also some running repairs required to the new bird table.

The Waltham Abbey Historical Society spent Saturday morning clearing grass from the outline of the cloisters behind the Abbey church. We made good progress!

The meeting the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership was very interesting, we had a brief talk from Linnea Ranger on the work of the Epping Forest Heritage Trust and its vital work to protect the Forest. I was particularly interested in the safety campaign for the Epping New Road.

The talk on Life in the Roman Army at the District Museum was absolutely fascinating. Dr Carolina Rangel de Lima held the attention her audience for an hour and a half with insights into the daily lives of roman soldiers.
