Tomorrow is 1 December – the end of National Tree Week and the start of Christmas Tree season. If you are buying a real Christmas tree have you considered buying a potted tree, ie with roots? This can be taken out after Christmas and kept in the garden, to be cared for like the rest of your outdoor plants until next year and the year after that and so on. Saving money and trees. The Royal Horticultural Society has good advice for those thinking of a potted tree https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/types/trees/christmas-trees

Investment set to bring 1,300 more chargers to county by next year

Oxfordshire will receive £3.6 million to triple its number of public electric vehicle (EV) chargers after the county’s Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) bid was approved.

Money from the Department for Transport will seed fund a major rollout of infrastructure worth over £10m that will see more than 1,300 public chargers delivered in the county by the end of 2025. The rest of the funding will largely come in the form of investment from the EV chargepoint operators themselves.

Oxfordshire County Council led the application in close collaboration with Oxford City Council and Cherwell, West Oxfordshire, South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils.

The programme aims to create a reliable, easy-to-use, contactless EV charging network spanning the county. This will give more people the opportunity to switch to an EV – regardless of where they live or their parking situation – to improve Oxfordshire's environment and air quality.

*** South and Vale Communication ***

Join the fight against festive food waste – put your knowledge to the test and you could win a £100 farm shop voucher!

Residents in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse are being challenged to put their knowledge of food waste to the test and be in with the chance of winning a voucher worth £100 for a local farm shop and a hamper containing items to help reduce their waste!

Nationally, too much of our food ends up being thrown away, especially at Christmas time when two million turkeys, five million Christmas puddings, and 74 million mince pies get disposed of in the UK each year while still being edible. This results in more than 270,000 tonnes of food waste produced during the holiday season alone!
Recycling food waste is good, but not wasting food is even better – to join the fight against food waste, try the South and Vale Festive Food Waste Quiz now by visiting

See our guide to dealing with your waste over Christmas and New Year including changes to bin days and lots of Christmas recycling ideas.
