Giving the learner more responsibility for their own test might sound a good idea but it inevitably removes the flexibility of the instructor helping to book and manage tests to benefit their pupils.

At present, most pupils have to book a test when they start learning as 6 months is our average time to learn with one lesson a week.

Hopefully by next year we can book a test when learners are ready, without this unreasonable wait.

Time will tell…

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

Another week, another student passing their manual driving test on their first time of trying.

Congratulations to camera shy JC (one of our more mature learners) who put together all the methods and principles we have learnt over the last few months to create a PASS on his test this morning.

So proud of what you have achieved and especially how you applied the techniques we learnt together to keep focus today, despite the inevitable nerves you felt.

ENJOY your driving and make sure to repay all those lifts you owe to your partner, friends and family. Look forward to seeing you on the roads!

Good advice for blue lights - don’t default to stop.

Lights = ‘Look at me, I’m an emergency vehicle’
Sirens = ‘I want to pass you and I’m coming through, if you make it safe’

The blue lights vehicle should never push you to break the law, so

don’t go through red lights,
or wrong side of directional bollards,
or break the speed limit,

as these three are the things ONLY the blue light vehicle CAN legally do, not you.

A lovely calm drive to Newark Castle with Florence. Both rural roads and dual carriageways driven with great thoughts, positive feeling and a great sense of successful ‘real driving’.

We experience all parts of driving in our lessons - Florence wanted to see the castle and experience a slightly faster, but calmer environment to help manage her expectations, and feelings - awesome job, we need to decide how to get home.

Congratulations to Adam, who passed his manual driving test yesterday. An OUTSTANDING drive!

Tough route and some challenging parts of the test due to other drivers behaviour (including speed limit awareness), potholes on A612, and some bad luck with progress due to traffic lights.

Due to our training and the positive attitude we developed, none of these issues caused any stress and he dealt with them all

Learning to drive? You might find this video helpful, it is a genuine test implementing rural elements in the Colwick Test Centre area.

Some real challenges in this test and some very nice techniques deployed by our pupil: pothole management, lane management, less space = less speed, peep and creep, see and be seen, patience, balance control and taking your time to be ‘good enough’
