๐จ Consumer Alert โ Kent Residents (5 June 2026) ๐จ
Weโve seen a rise in doorstep crime and scams across Kent this week, including Ashford, Gravesend, Deal, Tonbridge and Maidstone.
โ ๏ธ Doorstep scams
Criminals are pressuring residents into paying for unnecessary roofing, gardening, drain and waste removal work.
Remember:
Never agree to work from cold callers
Trusted traders can be found via Trading Standards Checked
Always be wary of pressure tactics
๐ Report suspicious doorstep callers anonymously to Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111
๐ Phone scams warning
Scam callers are impersonating:
Police officers
Banks
Amazon and other companies
They may claim:
Your bank account is compromised
Your card needs replacing
A family member has been arrested
You must buy gold or hand over valuables to a courier
โ The police and banks will NEVER:
Ask for your PIN or banking details
Send someone to collect your cash, cards or valuables
If in doubt:
Hang up immediately
Call your bank using 159
Report to Kent Police
๐ Online & purchase scams
Be cautious of unexpected calls asking for personal or financial details, including โAmazon accountโ scams. Always contact companies directly using official details.
๐๏ธ Waste disposal reminder
Before paying anyone to take waste away:
Check their Waste Carriers Licence
Ask for a Waste Transfer Note
Record their vehicle registration
These simple steps help prevent fly-tipping and keep Kent clean.
โ ๏ธ Product recalls
Gรผ Frozen Dessert โ undeclared hazelnuts & soya
Maxi-Cosi Car Seat Base โ safety fitting issue
