Billiam didn’t seem that impressed at my rendition of backstreet boys “as long as you love me”. I find that rude Billiam. I was a marvel. He genuinely looked at me like I’d just insulted his whole family 🤷🏻‍♀️

We welcome little Leo and Lucy to the sanctuary this afternoon. A lovely couple rescued them before they were sealed in under solar panels.

Unfortunately we keep seeing random people on posts around local groups offering to take in pigeons, who don’t seem to have any rehab experience nor known within the bird rehab community. If you are seeking help for birds, please ensure the person you are in touch with is a reputable rescue or rehabber with facilities to take care of them.

These little ones will now need had rearing. Feeding them hand rearing formula can be incredibly dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing and the babies can aspirate and die if it is not done right.

💜 A little ask from us 💜

We don’t often ask for donations.

In fact, we’re probably guilty of not asking nearly often enough. The vast majority of the costs of running Forest Flock Pigeon Sanctuary are funded by ourselves, because we simply want to make sure the birds get everything they need.

But, as with everything at the moment, the costs are getting higher and higher.

Food, bedding, medication, supplements, cleaning supplies, heating, electricity, aviary repairs and all the other day-to-day costs of caring for a sanctuary full of pigeons really do add up. And just like everyone else, we’re feeling the constant rise in the cost of living.

We are incredibly lucky to have some wonderful regular supporters who donate to us, and those donations genuinely make a difference. They help us keep the sanctuary running and, most importantly, help us continue taking care of the birds who need us. 🥹🕊️

But at the moment, our costs are mounting, and we could really use a little extra help.

We’re not asking anyone to give what they can’t afford, please always put yourselves and your own families first. ❤️

But if you have a few pounds spare and would like to contribute towards the care of the flock, it would mean so much to us.

Even a small donation helps pay for a little bit of food, bedding or medication. And lots of little donations really do add up.

Hi all, just wondered everyone’s thoughts on a calendar this year. We did try and do one a few years back but unfortunately circumstances at the time changed and I wasn’t able to.

To make it viable it would need to be priced around £10-15. A3 full colour gloss and can post in uk.

What’s your thoughts xx

Look at our beautiful Precious! 🥹🕊️

She’s just one of the many precious little lives here at Forest Flock Pigeon Sanctuary who relies on us for food, medication, warmth and care.

If you’d like to help us keep caring for Precious and all her feathered friends, even a small donation makes a huge difference. As is everyone, we are certainly feeling the pinch currently.

Today we welcomed another innocent victim into the sanctuary.

A beautiful wood pigeon had been shot. Not killed outright. Just left to suffer.

She had two fractures to her wing, and the pellet was still lodged inside one of the breaks. There was nothing that could be done to save her, and the kindest thing we could offer was a peaceful end to her pain.

To the person who pulled the trigger…

Did you ever stop to think about what happened after you walked away? Did you wonder if she lay in pain for hours, frightened and unable to escape? Did you think about the fact she may have had a mate waiting for her to come home, or babies depending on her? To you it may have been a moment of entertainment. To her, it was the end of her life.

And for us, a small non-profit pigeon sanctuary, it meant another emergency call, another rescue, another veterinary bill of over £100, funded entirely by donations and our own pockets, only to have to say goodbye.

I will never understand how anyone can look at a living creature that feels fear and pain and decide its suffering doesn’t matter simply because of its species.

What a cruel world we live in when an animal can be made to suffer like this, and the response from some people is laughter or indifference.

Wood pigeons are intelligent, devoted birds. They form strong pair bonds and work together to raise their young. Somewhere there may be a partner waiting for her return, or chicks that will never see their parent again. Every life has value to someone.

If you think shooting wildlife for fun is harmless, today is what it really looks like: fear, pain, heartbreak, and people trying desperately to pick up the pieces.

Please, if you see an injured bird, don’t walk past. Call a local wildlife rescue. Compassion costs nothing.
