The barn is wonderfully secluded in it's own valley! However you will need your own transport get here! Directions: Leave M6 junction 40 sign posted A66 Keswick, from Keswick sign posted Cockermouth/Workington. Leave A66 left sign posted Whitehaven A595. Follow the A595 to Egremont turn left at 3rd roundabout sign posted Wilton and immediate left Wilton, continue over Stocks Bridge through the village and passed Weddingshaws farm, the road will bend to the right at the top were a small sandstone building is on the left, turn left onto dirt track and continue down to metal forest gate, continue through keeping to the left hand track down into the bottom of the valley, when you reach the bottom you will notice a wooden five bar gate into a paddock. Welcome to Uldale Farm!
General information
The barn offers accommodation for walkers/cyclist and will comfortably sleep 20 plus. The sleeping area can be segregated into male and female. Below the sleeping quarters is a den with wood burning stove and has comfortable seating around the large stone built fireplace. The kitchen includes: gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. There is a toilet and hot shower; the hot water being heated by wood burning stove. Fire wood is available at an extra cost. Drinking water is bottled water only and is available for sale if required. Electricity is produced by a wind turbine as the barn is set in it's own valley and as such has no main electricity. Food and/or packed lunch is available with 24hrs notice. For the comfort of all our guests pets are not allowed in the sleeping area. Group bookings are for a minimum of 2 nights. Typical charges are £200 per night for up to 20 people. Over 20 people charged at an additional £10.00 per head. We are more than welcoming to offers for parties, longer functions and can tailor our packages and charges to suit your needs. The owners of the barn live right next door so are never far away to answer any queries you have! Local places of interest: Florence Mine - only 3 miles walking towards Egremont, Florence Mine is the last working iron ore mine in Europe, part of the rich mining history of West Cumbria. The rich iron ore deposits, known as haematite. Egremont Castle - the present castle was built by William de Meschines about 1130-1140, but there was an earlier Norman mound near this site. Further additions were made in the 13th century. In the 16th century there was an attempt to put Mary Queen of Scots on the Throne, and several northern nobles took part. Eight years later the castle was reported to be ruined and decayed. The castle stands on a mound above the River Ehen. The ditches are well preserved. Part of the wall and the gatehouse are in a reasonable state of repair. The massive wall at the end of the outer bailey was part of the Great Hall. Access at any time. The castle is on public land. Muncaster Castle - close proximity to the West Lakes. The historic haunted castle, still a lived in family home is the jewel in the crown of this majestic setting on the Western Lake District. Host to private weddings, functions and parties, this idyllic setting is simply awe inspiring. See the Castle in all its glory and hear from the Pennington family who have resided in the Castle since 1208, about Muncaster's colourful history and residents. Learn about Tom Fool aka Tom Skelton, court jester at Muncaster in the 16th Century with his links to Shakespeare and the ghost stories about him causing trouble today! Only 10 miles away from ‘Britain’s favourite view’ at Wastwater, the Western Lake District is this hidden gem waiting for your discovery.
