Great night last night at the Reform UK event in Cannock.

Lee Anderson gave a brilliant, no nonsense speech as always, and Cllr George Finch was on top form too.

Packed room, lots of energy, and plenty of good people stepping forward to stand as council candidates.

This movement is building fast.

Properly enjoyed it. 🇬🇧

At today’s Corporate Governance Committee I asked officers to confirm the facts on our debt repayments.

Officers confirmed we’ve significantly reduced the council’s debt to its lowest level in recorded history and that the early repayments are delivering real net savings for Leicestershire taxpayers.

No spin, just facts. Responsible financial management in action. 🇬🇧

Reform UK GAIN from Labour.

Yesterday I was out campaigning for Peter Gilbert for the Camp Hill ward on Nuneaton & Bedworth borough council and I’m really glad to share this strong result with you all today.

Nearly 49% of the vote. A clear message.

Well done to now CLLR Peter Gilbert and everyone who got out and supported him.
Onwards. 🇬🇧

This has to stop.

Let’s clear things up:

Some people are claiming Reform has simply taken credit for work the previous Conservative administration had already done.

Others are suggesting we’ve only managed to reduce debt by cutting services.

Neither is true.

What we’ve actually done is repay expensive debt early.

Think of it like paying off a credit card or part of your mortgage ahead of schedule.

Yes, there’s a one off cost for settling it early.

But by doing so, you avoid paying years of interest, leaving you significantly better off in the long run.

That’s exactly what we have done.

The latest announcement saw the Council repay a further £26.9 million of external debt ahead of schedule.

As a result, the Council’s external debt has fallen from £130.5 million to £103.3 million.

Most importantly, experts have advised that repaying these historic loans now will save taxpayers around £2 million every year in interest for more than 20 years.

That’s money that can be spent on local services instead of servicing debt.

I’ve also seen claims that this has only been possible because we’ve cut services.

Again, that’s simply not correct.

The repayments have been funded through efficiencies, underspends and a major efficiency programme, that is identifying around £60 million a year in savings.

That’s about running the Council better, not asking taxpayers to pay more.

One final point.

The Capital Strategy some people are quoting to suggest more borrowing was approved by Reform, was approved before Reform took control. It’s literally Tory borrowing which is funny as they’re the ones trying to blame it on us.

In fact, one of the reasons we’re carrying out our major efficiency review is to reduce reliance on borrowing, not increase it.

Politics often generates more heat than light.

The facts matter.

Less spent on interest means more available for the services residents rely on.

That’s just common sense.

Today is polling day in the Camp Hill By-Election for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

If you’re in the ward, make sure you get out and vote Reform UK for Peter Gilbert before 10pm tonight.

This is another chance to reject the old parties and back real change at the local level.

Vote Reform UK. 🇬🇧

The official Leicestershire County Council page has now had to issue “✅ FACT CHECK ✅” posts twice in the last few weeks alone.

As far as I’m aware, that’s never happened before in the council’s history.

It says everything about the level of misinformation and deliberate falsehoods being spread about our Reform UK administration, mostly by the opposition Tories.

The truth is this: in just one year of taking control, we’ve delivered the lowest council tax rise in over a decade, paid off £26.9 million of inherited debt, cut wasteful net zero spending, and launched an efficiency drive that’s already identified over £60 million in potential savings.

No service cuts. Real progress. And we’re only getting started.

Reform delivering real results in Leicestershire! 👇🏼👇🏼

💷 DELIVERING FOR LEICESTERSHIRE 💷

We’ve just paid off £26.9 million of high-interest debt inherited from the previous administration. ✅

As a result, Leicestershire County Council’s debt is now at its LOWEST level in recorded HISTORY.

This means less money spent on interest payments and more money available for the frontline services residents rely on.

It’s another example of Reform putting the council’s finances on a stronger footing, cutting waste and delivering better value for taxpayers. 💪🏼

Action. Delivery. Reform. ➡️🩵

In May last year, Reform UK became the largest party on Leicestershire County Council.

A year and a bit later we’ve just paid off £26.9m of Tory debt, taking the Council’s debt to the LOWEST LEVEL in recorded HISTORY! 📜

Real delivery. Reform is sorting the mess the others left behind. 🇬🇧
