Happy 60th Birthday, Manny! 🎂🎉

Cllr Chris Ready recently surprised one of his best mates, Manny, with a special certificate and a blue and white birthday cake to celebrate his 60th birthday, which he marked earlier in the week.

Chris said:

"We've shared many adventures together over the years and enjoyed countless community activities. It's been a pleasure to celebrate this important milestone with a true friend."

A lifelong Wigan Athletic supporter, Manny was delighted with his Latics-themed cake, presented by Chris and Cllr Laura Flynn.

Manny said:

"It was a great surprise to receive the certificate and Latics cake from Chris. We go back over three decades and true friends are something to treasure."

Congratulations, Manny, on your 60th birthday, and here's to many more years of friendship, community spirit, and happy memories.

🚌 IMPROVEMENTS TO THE 615 BUS ROUTE START TODAY

From today, the 615 is getting a number of positive improvements, making it easier for residents in Wigan, Aspull, New Springs & Whelley, and along the route to travel for work, education, shopping and leisure.

The improvements include:

🔄 More frequent buses – services will now run every 30 minutes during the daytime.

🌙 Later evening journeys – giving passengers more flexibility and making it easier to travel home later.

🌅 Earlier morning journeys – providing better connections for commuters and those starting work early and for young people getting to school/college.

📅 A new Sunday and Bank Holiday service – the 615 will now operate seven days a week.

📍 An extended route to Bolton – buses will continue beyond Middlebrook to Bolton town centre via Chorley New Road.

💰And remember, fares are capped at £2 thanks to Andy Burnham, and travel will be free for 11-16 years olds from January 1st.

This is a significant improvement to a service that had already restored an important connection to Bolton Road and linked our areas with Horwich Parkway and Middlebrook.

We were delighted to achieve the 615 two years ago and so pleased it’s now resulted in this great service.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences and helped us continue making the case for better local bus services.

The twice hourly 615 does mean that the 575 will be reduced slightly to every 30 mins than every 20 mins, but it will now be a double decker to increase capacity.

There will still be 4 buses an hour to both Wigan and Bolton (will be 2 x 615 and 2 x 575, rather than 1 x 615 and 3 x 575).

We continue to push for a bus to serve Pennington Green, linking Aspull and Hindley, and bus for Red Rock and linking Standish and Aspull and serving Haigh Hall; improvements to the 613 to serve further up Platt Lane in Whelley.

We hope these changes will make the 615 an even more useful and convenient service for our communities. Please support it and use it whenever you can! 🐝
