Great news from the Recreation Ground! 🪲

Our Grounds Team have recently been spotting more stag beetles around the site — a fantastic sign that local habitats are supporting wildlife and biodiversity. 🌿

Stag beetles are one of the UK’s most iconic insects and are an important part of the ecosystem. They rely on dead wood, decaying vegetation and undisturbed natural areas, which is why creating wildlife-friendly spaces is so important.

Through habitat management, retaining natural areas and encouraging biodiversity across our green spaces, we are hoping to support even more wildlife like this in the future.

If you’re visiting the Recreation Ground, keep an eye out — you may be lucky enough to spot one too! 👀

It's hot out there! Please share the RNLI lifesaving advice to help keep people safe 📢
Some areas of the UK are exceeding 30°C. With many families enjoying the sun this half term, we are asking you to remember one thing if you're by the water:
- Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
- Relax and try to breathe normally
- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
- It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently
- Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety.

Enjoy and stay safe 🥵

Dorset Council is trialling a temporary footway on Julian's Bridge to provide a safe route for pedestrians, created by making the bridge into a signal traffic lane with temporary traffic signals.

The trial will run from 26 May until 3 July 2026 to give a clear understanding of the effects of the lights in different circumstances, including special events, school half term and when traffic is at normal levels.

Dorset Council want to hear your views on the bridge and the trial of traffic lights and to understand the impacts on residents, businesses and visitors to the area.
