Soldiers from Edinburgh-based 3 Ri**es have been competing against each other in the unit’s traditional ‘Chosen Man’ contest on the Pentland Hills.

The competition sees riflemen put through a series of challenges, shooting drills and obstacle courses to find out who is the best.

People are the most important asset that the regiment has and that includes our veteran community, which is why we are proud to announce the launch of The Rifleman’s Association (TRA).

Each TRA is based on battalion groupings that not only keep you connected to the fellow Riflemen you served with, but it will also help bring you together through organised events that are led by a dedicated veteran Senior Rifleman who will oversee everything to do with your branch. If you served in different battalions you can join more than one TRA and in doing so we hope our shared identity will follow you.

Whether it is an organised Battlefield Tour, Remembrance, a fund raiser for a fellow Rifleman in need, or just a few beers in a pub, each TRA will be responsible for its own members and helping us adhere to the saying, "Once a Rifleman, Always a Rifleman".

Completing them opens the door to many opportunities for employment, one of which is joining the army. We can offer many specialist roles in our regiment, The Ri**es, for capable and enthusiastic young people, providing you a chance to leave home, get ahead in life and forge a career that provides excitement, personal development and an ability to travel the world.

The pay is good, and you can join one of our battalions that are located across the UK in Chepstow, near Salisbury or Belfast, and Edinburgh. All these have great transport links which means you can get home at weekends to see family and friends.

On Saturday, over 100 members, from across the 5 pillars of the regiment took part in the 5km Tough Mudder event in Gloucester.

Despite the enjoyment of taking part and seeing individuals having fun, there was a serious element to the day and that was bringing together RI**ES folks so that they could connect and be there for one another. This is an important part of what the Lean on Me Project (LOMP) stands for, in particular asking serving and veteran Riflemen to share with their families, friends, and sons and daughters. Speaking out and discussing your concerns is good for everyone, and knowing that there others who are willing to support and help you is critical to providing comfort, understanding, and the knowledge that the wider regiment is always there for you.

If the event goes ahead next year we hope you can join us and be a part of something that is special.
