ROAD SAFETY - LOT'S DONE, LOT'S MORE TO DO

Casualties decline sharply but much more action is needed

The number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads fell sharply last year but is still far too high. In 2024, 89 people died or were severely injured in Wirral. This was down from 125 in 2023 and below the five-year average of 101. Green councillors have always campaigned for and backed measures to improve road safety. That includes 20mph for residential streets and investment in facilities to make walking and wheeling safer for everyone.

Cllr Amanda Onwuemene says, “These figures suggest our efforts are paying off. However it’s vital that we continue to invest to make travel safer for everyone and reduce the number of lives lost or permanently affected by traffic danger.”
