🍂🕷️ Our FREE Family Nature Trail is ready to explore! 🦇🐸

Looking for some family fun this half term? Come along to Wildgoose Nature Reserve and discover the wonderful world of spiders, toads and other spooky creatures!

👀 Are they really as scary as they seem? Follow our trail, uncover their secrets and discover why these amazing creatures deserve a little love!

🎃 FREE family fun for half term!
🍂 Explore our nature trail at your own pace.
🔎 Every child receives a FREE activity pack.
🏆 Complete the trail and win a prize!

🥾 A few things to remember:
🌦️ This is an outdoor activity, so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
👨‍👩‍👧 Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
☕ The trail is available during Bonnie’s Café opening hours. Simply pop into the café to collect your FREE trail pack.

🐦 A chilly start, but some lovely winter visitors! ❄️🌿

It was a cold and slow start for our bird ringers on the reserve, but things picked up as the morning warmed up, with 25 birds caught and ringed in total.

The morning's highlights included our first Redpoll of the winter, along with a Redwing, both lovely signs of the changing seasons. 🍂

🐦 2 Great T**s
🐦 1 Blackcap
🐦 1 Blackbird
🐦 1 Wren

The Kingfisher was a real treat, and the team took Bonnie's Tea Room and Visitor's Centre at Wildgoose so customers could get a closer look before we released him. 💙

A cool but bright morning, with some fantastic birds to enjoy. Thanks as always to our ringing team for their work recording the wildlife on the reserve! ❤️

Here’s an interesting Blackcap movement. On 6th September Simon ringed a young male Blackcap here with our regular ringing group.
He was then caught again alive and well on Tuesday (13th Oct), 37 days later in Gibraltar 1800km away!!

🌿 A little friendly competition goes a long way! 🪵

We had a fantastic time welcoming staff from WMEmployers to Wildgoose Nature Reserve for two team days of willow weaving on our new reserve roundhouse.

Things got a little competitive as colleagues worked together to weave and shape the willow, but there was plenty of teamwork and laughter along the way!

A huge thank you to everyone for giving up their time and helping us with this project. We’re so grateful for your support! 💚

🐦 **Another busy morning of bird ringing at Wildgoose!** 🌿

Our bird ringers had a steady morning on the reserve, recording **86 birds in total**, with a couple of special highlights.

⭐ Two Marsh T**s were caught, including an adult that had been ringed previously and was caught again, and a juvenile. A Nuthatch was another great find!

The morning's birds included:
🐦 21 Chiffchaffs
🐦 16 Blue T**s
🐦 12 Blackcaps
🐦 11 Long-tailed T**s
🐦 7 Great T**s
🐦 6 Wrens
🐦 4 Goldcrests
🐦 2 Marsh T**s

There were also single captures of Coal Tit, Dunnock, Nuthatch, Robin, Reed Bunting, Song Thrush and Blackbird.

Every ringing session helps us build a better picture of the birds using our reserve and how their numbers change throughout the year.

🦢 A family stroll around the reserve! 🦢

Our resident pair of Mute Swans have been keeping a close eye on their growing family, with the adults leading their signets around the reserve as they get bigger and prepare to fledge. ❤️

To add to our earlier post there’s a lovely bit of history behind this family too. The female was first ringed as a cygnet on 28 August 2009 at Hanbury Wharf, Worcestershire, making her an impressive 17 years old!

It’s fantastic to know that a bird first recorded as a youngster all those years ago is still here today, raising more generations on our reserve year after year. 🥰

Keep an eye out for them if you’re visiting — although the signets are getting pretty big now!

Our resident swan family have been leaving the comfort of the lake and paying us a few visits here on the farm. 🦢❤️

Perhaps their family outings are all part of the plan to find the perfect clear runway for this year’s cygnets to take their first flight! ✈️🦢

It won’t be long before those little ones are spreading their wings. ❤️
