Stand up to Racism Adur & Worthing Adur & Worthing Stand Up To Racism brings together local people & organisations to promote, coordinate & organise anti-racism activities.

PM us if you'd like to join our Whatsapp group (for planning activities + sharing info) Following the launch of Stand Up To Racism (SUTR) as a new national anti-racism movement at its Conference on 8th October 2016, trade unions and anti-racism campaigners launched a local Stand Up To Racism group for Adur and Worthing. The racist divisions stoked by Boris Johnson and his Tory government underline the urgent need to challenge racism and racist ideas, support and show unity with communities and individuals experiencing racism, and celebrate our diverse multicultural community. Adur & Worthing Stand Up To Racism aims to bring together individuals and organisations in our area to help promote, coordinate and organise local events and activities around:

• Addressing the rise of racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism
• Defending Migrant Rights –Practical support for refugees
• Celebrating our diverse communities - Love Music Hate Racism

On 9th October 1934, a crowd of 2, 000 people protested against a meeting of Oswald Mosley's fascist Blackshirts, succeeding in driving them from the town. On the morning of the Blackshirt rally, local anti fascists had painted the words 'No more war. Damn Mosley. Fight Fascism' on the front of the town hall. Mosley supported Hi**er and the N***s, at a time when word of the N***s concentration camps was already getting out.

Today we once against face the threat of fascism. Then it was Jews who were the target, now it is refugees and Muslim people. Men dressed in black wearing balaclavas are on South Coast streets inciting race hate. The fascist politics are the same. So is the need to resist fascism and work for unity and peace.

Join us to commemorate the brave actions of local anti fascists all those years ago as we say 'Never again!'

The far right, racist and fascist 'Portsmouth Patriots' have invited far right from across the South Coast to bring their racist conspiracy theories and intimidation to our community.

The far right are meeting outside All Saints Church at 12.30pm this Saturday the 12th. We cannot allow them to march through Portsmouth city unopposed.

Please join us to build a mass counter-protest to show that racism and fascism are not welcome in Portsmouth.

Bring your friends and family, flags, banners, signs, musical instruments, and anything else to help us make a noise and show that Portsmouth is anti-fascist.

Portsmouth SUTR will have stewards to help keep people safe, but please be aware of your safety when joining and leaving the demo. Travel with others if possible, avoid having any visible badges or banners, and if you see any far right on your way to our demo please try to avoid engaging with them.

Hate is not welcome here.

Stand Up to Racism Adur & Worthing sends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Hassan El-Khawas, Zeina Alayn and their 14-year-old daughter Sara, who tragically lost their lives in the sea at Shoreham-by-Sea on Tuesday 18 August. We are heartbroken to learn that 6-year-old Saja El-Khawas, who had remained critically ill in hospital, has now also died. Four members of one family have now lost their lives as a result of this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts are with all those who loved them and are grieving this unimaginable loss.

We have been horrified by racist, anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic comments celebrating this tragedy. Whatever someone’s nationality, heritage, skin colour or perceived religion, the loss of a family should be met with compassion; not hatred.

We are also concerned by reporting that foregrounded Hassan’s refugee background without making clear that this was a British-Palestinian family and British citizens. Hassan had roots in Rashidieh Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, but a refugee history should never be used to turn British Palestinians into perpetual outsiders.

There is nothing shameful about being a refugee. But words matter, and years of hostile rhetoric about refugees, Muslims, migrants and racialised communities have helped create a climate in which some feel emboldened to express racism openly.

This was, above all, a devastating human tragedy. Our community must respond with compassion, solidarity and a rejection of racism, Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian hatred.

N**i ‘White Vanguard’ – a small but openly pro-N**i paramilitary style violent fascist group – are planning to come to Brighton on Saturday 22 August – let’s give them the traditional Brightonian welcome they deserve – assemble 11.30am Brighton Pier on Saturday 22 August – please bring trade union banners etc

Meet at Worthing Pier at 10:15 to travel on the 700 bus (depart approx 10:30) with your Worthing and Adur contingent.
