Chirk Castle NT/YG Castell Y Waun Completed in 1310, Chirk is the last Welsh castle from the reign of Edward I that's still lived in today.

A medieval castle, gardens and estate cared for by the National Trust Wales. Features from its 700 years include the medieval tower and dungeon, 17th-century Long Gallery, grand 18th-century state apartments, servants' hall and historic laundry. The award-winning gardens contain clipped yews, her

baceous borders, shrub and rock gardens. A terrace with stunning views looks out over the Cheshire and Salop plains. The parkland provides a habitat for rare invertebrates, wild flowers and contains many mature trees and also some splendid wrought-iron gates, made in 1719 by the Davies brothers. Summer of Play continues at Chirk Castle and there’s plenty more to discover around the garden too.

Summer colour continues in the Rose Garden, where you can still spot roses among the borders and catmint attracting an orchestra of buzzing insects. Beyond the Rose Garden, seasonal planting and vibrant borders can be found throughout the 5.5-acre garden.

Mae yna gorneli tawelach hefyd: cadeiriau i eistedd arnynt, gêm gystadleuol o wyddbwyll neu Connect Four, a digon o le i gamu’n ôl a chael ail-wynt.

Play in Paradise is full of life... sandpits, music and play, but you don’t have to be on the go all the time.

There are quieter corners too: deck chairs to sit in, a competitive game of chess or Connect Four, and plenty of space to step back and catch your breath.

Come for all the fun… and take five to unwind as well. Summer of Play is on until Monday 31 August.

Bob bore, mae’r tîm yng Nghastell y Waun yn dadorchuddio’r pyllau tywod, yn cribinio’r tywod ac yn trefnu’r cregyn a’r gweithgareddau, yn barod am ddiwrnod arall o Chwarae ym Mharadwys.

Ar ôl i bopeth gael ei brofi’n ofalus, mae’n hen bryd dechrau chwarae.

Before the first sandcastle is built, there’s a little preparation to do... ️

Each morning, the team at Chirk Castle uncover the sandpits, rake the sand and arrange the shells and activities, ready for another day of Play in Paradise.

Once everything has been carefully tested, all that’s left to do is start playing.

Play in Paradise is open to all ages throughout the summer holidays. Activities are free; normal admission applies.
