Night Closure on The A370 at Hewish notification from the Hinckley C Connection Project only received this morning!

We are writing to inform you of traffic management on Weston Road (A370) at Hewish as part of reinstatement works for the Hinkley Connection Project.

We appreciate that this notification is being shared later than we would usually aim for, and we apologise for the short notice.

A full overnight road closure will be in place on Weston Road (A370), between Heathfield Park and Oaktree Yard, from Monday 27 April to Thursday 30 April 2026. The closure will operate between 10pm and 6am each night, with the road reopened during the daytime.

During this time, we will be carrying out reinstatement works, including resurfacing and road marking.

A Traffic Management Operative (TMO) will be on site during closure hours to assist residents with access to their residences, and emergency services will be permitted through at all times.

During the closure, a signed diversion will be in place via the following route:

Traffic will be diverted via the A38 between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol Airport
From the A38, drivers will be directed along the A368 towards Churchill and Sandford
The route then reconnects towards Weston-super-Mare via the A371 and A370

We have updated our traffic management webpage to reflect this change for wider awareness. If you receive any queries directly, please feel free to share them with us and we will respond as quickly as possible.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this short notice change and thank you for your continued understanding.

Kind regards,

Forthcoming Work on the Strawberry Line.
A contractor for North Somerset Council will be starting work on planned repairs/maintenance to the surface from Yatton station through to the farmers entrance south of Biddle street from this week. From the station to the Williams crossing near to Biddle Street they will be able to keep the path open and just have signage.

But the section between the Williams crossing through the farm gate there will be a closure in place for appox 3 days from the 5th May. This is because it’s not just straight pot hole works and they require the whole width of the path for the works, it is also slightly narrower through this section so it will not be safe to keep it open. There is no diversion really for the Public Right of Way (PROW) nor really for the section from Biddle St to the A370, whilst this is not ideal it is unavoidable. The access from what is the end of Biddle street back to the station will hopefully remain open – this is the plan the contractors have.

They will put some signs up this week in relation to the closure –
A 5 day PROW closure will be in place due to the PROW that crosses over this section. The PROW team are helping with this.

North Somerset Council are planning the first vegetation cut from the 5th May (subject to other demands) this normally starts at Winscombe. They may have to come back to the Yatton section between the A370 and Biddle street after these works have been completed.
