Come and join our volunteer morning tomorrow, Saturday 6th June from 10.30am!

There are a a few jobs to complete including:

Follow-up survey of the trees and build another cage.
Scythe the grass around the white stones making the entrances more distinct.
Fix another oak sign below the field noticeboard.
Pull some more baby thistles

Branwen's delicious hospitality unit will be on site at around 12 o'clock.

Thanks all who came and helped with the many monitoring and maintenance tasks today. We counted the thriving trees (there's lots) and added a red ribbon to a few that we need to keep an eye on. We also welcomed the Poppleton Bio Group who share an interest, like us, in wildflowers and the promotion of biodiversity in our landscape. As always, Branwen's delicious refreshments were much enjoyed by all at the end of the morning.

The next volunteer day is planned for 2nd May 2026
10.30 ~ 12.00 hrs. Jobs will be discussed on the day but they will include:

Checking all the trees.
Recording how many dead ones after the winter.
Any that need new supports.
Firming up any loose supports.
Clearing hedge trimmings and stones out of the ditch.
Pulling Himalayan Balsam from the ditch and any thistles from the field.
Some tools provided. Bring a named trowel or spade & gloves.

Afterwards we'll have a drink and some of Branwen's biscuits!

We usually have a bunch of 'old faithful's' on these occasions but getting new people involved is the lifeblood of any community project, so do please join us on the first Saturday of each month from April ~ October if you can. Accompanied children are welcome, of course.

Thanks to Stephen R for sharing his pictures of our bouncing visitor to the SWW this Easter weekend. Rabbits and hares are said to symbolise Spring, fertility and the renewal of life ... So a welcome reminder that nature continues to awaken around us after a dormant cold winter.

And so the cycle begins again ... After the long, dark, wet few months of Winter, how welcome is the sight of emerging life as we enter Spring. Thanks Ruth for sharing the picture of our first SWW daffodil (and small unidentified fungus).
