Huge congratulations to the lads from 1 R YORKS for being crowned the winners of the cup competition in this year’s Nav 9s inter-unit rugby league tournament!

It was a grueling tournament with high-intensity action, but the team showed incredible grit, teamwork, and that classic Yorkshire spirit to bring the trophy home.

A massive well done to the players and coaching staff for all the hard work behind the scenes.

Today, we stand together to mark the 81st anniversary of VE Day. 🇬🇧

On this day in 1945, the guns fell silent across Europe. We remember the incredible bravery of the soldiers from our antecedent regiments who fought through North West Europe, Italy, and beyond to secure peace.

From the beaches of Normandy to the final push into Germany, Yorkshiremen were there. Today, we don’t just celebrate a historic victory; we honour the sacrifices that allow us the freedoms we enjoy today.

Fortune Favours the Brave.

Soldiers from Alma Company, 1st Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, have been sharpening their edge at a specialist Urban Training facility.

Urban operations demand sharp instincts, tight teamwork, and the ability to adapt fast, and Alma Company delivered on all fronts. From building clearances to close-quarter decision-making, the training gave our soldiers the skills they need to operate confidently and effectively in complex environments.

The men and women of 1 R YORKS continue to set the standard, during training, in the field, and beyond.

A Celebration of Our Regimental Family

Recently, our Regimental Association family celebrated a truly momentous milestone. We had the privilege of joining East Yorkshire Regiment veteran 14810848 Pte Donald Leach to mark his 100th birthday!

It is a core tenet of our Regimental family that we look after our own, and there was no place we would have rather been than by Donald's side to present him with his birthday card, a specially commissioned cake, and a PWO Association presentation piece.

Donald’s story is one of duty and quiet resilience. Called up on his 18th birthday in 1944, he served with distinction, training in Northumberland before deploying to the Netherlands and crossing the Rhine into Essen. His service took him from the European theatre to Egypt and Palestine before his demob in 1948.

Since the war, Donald has remained a dedicated family man. Though he rarely speaks of his service, we are incredibly proud to recognise his century of life. Despite the challenges of time, his daughter Jayne tells us his mind remains sharp and his wit even sharper.

Donald, thank you for your service and for allowing us to be part of your special day. You are a true testament to the strength of your generation.

Fortune favours the brave.

Last week we celebrated the Commissioning Parade for Course 261 at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst!

The R YORKS Permanent Staff were delighted to host Brig Andy Gardner CBE, representing the Colonel of the Regiment, for this special occasion.

A massive well done to OCdt Andrew Ferguson on commissioning into the Regiment. We also recognise the hard work of CSgt Chandler and CSgt Stevens, who saluted their platoons for the last time today as they completed the Senior Term.

Welcome to the R YORKS family, Andrew!

Expertise in every round. 🦁

The 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment’s Machine Gun Platoon has been hard at work recently, running a comprehensive cadre to sharpen their skills.

The cadre ensures that all members of the platoon are fully qualified and operating at the highest standard. It’s been a busy period of intense range work and tactical assessments, essentially turning mountains of bullets into brass to ensure our firepower is as reliable as the soldiers behind the sights.

Great to see them pushing through the grit and maintaining the high professional standards the R YORKS are known for.

Training for the 1 R YORKS Reconnaissance Platoon is all about living in the shadows.

Recently, the platoon tested its mettle in demanding conditions, operating from subsurface OPs. It’s a job that requires elite fieldcraft and the mental toughness to remain unseen while providing the Commander with the ground truth.

But when the intel was gathered, the silence ended. The week culminated in a deliberate raid which was planned with precision, rehearsed to perfection, and executed with the controlled aggression the Yorkshire Warriors are known for.

Fortune Favours the Brave.

A Proud Day for Yorkshire! ⚔️

Huge congratulations to the newest members of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment who passed off the square at ITC Catterick last week!

After months of blood, sweat, and plenty of Catterick mud, these soldiers have proven they have the grit, tenacity, and "Yorkshire Spirit" required to join the ranks of the British Army’s finest.

To the families who watched with pride from the stands, your support made this possible. Welcome to the Regimental family. We look forward to seeing these soldiers hit the ground running with their new Battalions.

Huge congratulations to our Colonel of the Regiment, Zac Stenning CB OBE, on his promotion to Lieutenant General and his appointment as the new Commander Land Forces (CLF).

In this newly titled 3-star role, Lt Gen Stenning will lead the preparation and generation of Land Forces at home and across the globe, ensuring the British Army remains at the cutting edge of modern warfare.

Reflecting on his new role, Lt Gen Stenning said: "I am honoured and excited to be returning to the Army... together, we will deliver the most capable Land Forces wherever our Nation needs its Army."

We are incredibly proud to have his leadership at the head of our Regiment as he takes on this vital role for the British Army and NATO. 🇬🇧
