The Grenada Coastal EbA Project is jointly implemented by the Government of Grenada and the United Nations Environment Programme, with funding from the European Commission. Grenada is one of two pilot SIDS countries participating in the Project, which is titled "Building Capacity for Coastal Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)". The long term goal of the Proje
ct is to strengthen the Climate Change resilience and adaptive capacity of communities and societies in SIDS with high dependence on ecosystem services provided by healthy tropical coastal ecosystems. For Grenada, consultation with a wide cross-section of stakeholders led to the selection of coral reef restoration as the preferred EbA strategy to pursue. To achieve this, coral nurseries - where coral fragments are tended until they are large enough to be transplanted - were installed in Grande Anse Bay, Grenada, and off of Mabouya Island, Carriacou. The corals grown in these nurseries will then be used to replant parts of the Grand Anse reef bank and the Bay a L'eau barrier reef, and will hopefully help these reefs to become more vibrant marine ecosystems once more! This page presents an opportunity to showcase the progress being made in the Coral Reef Programme and will create a space to share our work with the people of Grenada!
