The City of Willowick sincerely thanks all residents who attended the September 1, 2026, Council meeting and shared their experiences with flooding.

We understand how frustrating and disruptive flooding can be for our residents.

Attached are the documents presented by Mayor Vanni, including information on the August 22 rain event, the upcoming Culvert Rehabilitation Project, and a history of the City’s sewer improvement projects and costs.

The extensive list of sewer projects completed over the years reflects how important our sewer system is to the City and the significant commitment Willowick has made to maintaining and improving that system. Sewer improvements remain one of the City’s highest priorities.

We again ask residents to report any flooding to the Willowick Service Department. These reports help identify areas of concern, guide future improvements, and strengthen the City’s ability to obtain grants and other outside funding.

🇺🇸 Willowick’s Hometown Hero Spotlight 🇺🇸

This week, we recognize Joseph J. Guzauskas

Joseph J. Guzauskas was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1917. He was the third of five sons. Joseph graduated from Cleveland East Technical High School in 1936 and worked as a machinist for National Acme from 1936 to 1941.

In October 1942, Joseph enlisted in the Army and trained in communications at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was commissioned as a communications officer and deployed to the Asiatic-Pacific, serving in New Guinea and the South Philippines in 1944. He received several honors, including the American Campaign Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Victory Medal.

Joseph was honorably discharged in 1946 as a First Lieutenant. He then reenlisted to attend the Signal Company Officers Course at Fort Monmouth in 1951.

In 1952, He married and moved to Willowick, where he raised his four kids. George, Marty, Jane, and Sue.

Joseph Guzauskas served in the U.S. Army in WWII and the Korean Conflict.
