OFFICIAL: Liverpool FC can confirm Hugo Ekitike has sustained a serious Achilles injury.

The forward had to be substituted during the first half of Tuesday's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield after a slip on the turf. Scans on the issue have subsequently confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon.

Ekitike will therefore be sidelined for the remaining weeks of the club season and unable to participate at this summer's World Cup with France. Further updates will be provided at the appropriate time, with Hugo receiving the full support of everyone at LFC.

Seven Eritrean football players abscond in South Africa following AFCON qualifier

Seven players of the Eritrean national football team have reportedly disappeared in South Africa following their successful qualification for the group stage of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The disappearance occurred after the squad’s second-leg preliminary qualifier, where the team secured a 2-1 victory over Eswatini.

According to team manifests, only three of the ten locally-based players—Ablum Teklezgi, Nahom Tadesse, and Rommel Abdu—made the return journey to their home country.

The specific reasons behind the vanishing of the seven players remain unconfirmed.

This incident is part of a recurring pattern for the squad, nicknamed the "Red Sea Boys".

Since 2006, the East African nation has seen dozens of national team players fail to return home following international assignments, often seeking asylum in the countries where they compete.
