GHANA NAVY PARTICIPATES IN DSRA EXHIBITION DAY

The Ghana Navy has participated in the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA) Exhibition at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon on Friday 27 June 2025.

The DSRA, celebrated annually, is an event established by the African Union to highlight the critical role of Science and Technology in Africa’s development.
As part of celebrations and under the theme “Climate Sustainability : Innovate, Safeguard, Prosper”, featured exhibitors from the Ghana Navy, Ghana Air force and various departments at University of Ghana providing a platform for exhibitors to showcase their products and services.

By extension, the Ghana Navy aimed at raising awareness on the importance of maritime security and the role it plays in protecting Ghana’s coastal resources and economy.

Addressing participants, Hydrographer of the Ghana Navy, Lieutenant Commander Gladstone Atsu Senyo Bensah highlighted some roles of Ghana Navy including maritime security and environmental protection.

The event drew students from the University of Ghana, Senior and Junior High Schools and individuals from various backgrounds, all seeking to acquire valuable insights, discover career paths, and having an engaging experience at the exhibition.

The Commanding Officer of the Italian ship Comandante Bettica, Commander Francesco Marangio, has paid a courtesy visit to Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, to reinforce bilateral cooperation and discuss upcoming joint naval exercise.

Commander Marangio described Ghana as a trusted partner and reiterated Italy’s commitment to maritime defence and security cooperation particularly in expanding maritime domain capabilities.

Commodore Asiedu-Larbi welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the importance of partnerships in maritime security. He assured the Ghana Navy’s full support and expressed gratitude for Italy’s efforts toward strengthening ties and enhancing professionalism through shared training opportunities.

GHANA NAVY LECTURES NISS PARTICIPANTS

The Ghana Navy held a lecture for representatives from the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja on Monday 16 June 2025.

The lecture forms part of Ghana Navy’s commitment in enhancing security cooperation as well as promoting maritime security awareness.
Again, it aimed at providing insight on Civil- Military Cooperation in addressing non-state maritime threats in coastal regions.

The Deputy Chief Staff Officer Naval Policy and Plans, Commodore Roger Bagoniah in his opening remarks welcomed the participants on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing and commended them in seeking firsthand information from the Ghana Navy on issues of maritime threats. He acknowledged the role of Ghana Navy in safeguarding Ghana’s Maritime domain.

Speaking during the presentation, Acting Director Naval Intelligence, Commander Micheal Asiamah stated that Civil Military Cooperation plays a pivotal role in modern security operations particularly in addressing non- state medal threats. He said Ghana Navy actively engages in civil military cooperation to create a safe, secure and sustainable maritime environment.

The leader of the delegation, Director of Research and Library Studies, Mr Rafin Bolarinwa Adekule stated that effective collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria will go a long way to assist in addressing the issue of maritime threats.
