ONLY UNITY WILL GET US TO OUR GOAL - HENRY QUARTEY
On March 6, 2023, the Greater Accra Regional Minister – Hon. Henry Quartey (MP), together with the 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, marked Ghana’s 66th Independence Anniversary with a colorful Regional Day Celebration parade at the Tema Sports Stadium.
The ceremony was graced by a Member of Council of State - Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson, Members of Parliament across the region from both political divides, Senior Officers from the Security and Intelligence Agencies, Paramount Chiefs, some Captains of Industry, educationists, and a contingent of about 1,500 comprising of 29 schools from all MMDAs, service men and women, cadets and students from Basic and Senior High Schools rallying round the flag of Ghana.
In his address the Regional Minister called on chiefs, decision makers, political actors and people in the region to unite in support of national development. He also emphasized on his vision to Make Greater Accra Work and asserted that the region can only reach its desired destination of resilience and prosperity if all relevant parties put their strengths together and work in unity with a common purpose.
He stressed on the need strict sanitation enforcement and adherence to the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” Bye-Law. In his words “this singular action can contribute immensely to stop the perennial flooding which displaces inhabitants of the region.”
The Minister also revealed that the Greater Accra Region has, for the past eleven years, been the best region in terms of BECE results, and has also seen its second cycle institutions performing creditably well. He made a boast of the Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon, crowned champions of the recent National Science and Maths Quiz competition and appreciated the teachers for the achievement in the education sector.
He appreciated the Tema Metropolitan Assembly headed by Hon. Nii Amarh Ash*tey and Tema Traditional Council for accepting to host this year’s maiden unified Regional Anniversary celebration and applauded the organizing committee for a successful celebration which involved other activities including Inter Schools Nationalism Quiz, Boxing Competitions, Football Gala, Health Screening and Free NHIS Registration amongst others.
The Minister acknowledged and appreciated some key stakeholders who collaborated with the Regional Coordinating Council to make the Independence Anniversary a success. He made a special mention of Zoomlion Ghana Ltd. who supported in the massive 3-day “Operation Clean Your Frontage” enforcement and clean-up exercise from the 2nd to the 4th of March. He also lauded the involvement of the City Response Team, Assembly Members, Environmental Health workers and city dwellers who participated in the massive cleanup exercises throughout the Tema enclave and came out freely to clean their frontages and also supported the exercise in various ways.
He appreciated the NHIA, Ghana Health Service and Tobinco Pharmacy for their involvement and support for the Free NHIA Registration, Health Screening and dispensing of some drugs to participants. He saluted the tremendous support of the Greater Accra MESEC and the Security and intelligence agencies.
He also made a special mention of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region, Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) and other key stakeholders who funded and fully participated in the activities of this year’s celebration.
