Another successful Peace Corps Partnership Program grant in the Volta Region!

Volunteer Brandon brought together community members and health clinic staff to launch a mushroom production group, training nearly 15 participants on nutrition, cultivation and small business management.

The group is already generating income, has turned a profit, and is discussing expansion. A great example of how collaboration can support both healthier communities and stronger livelihoods.

More than 20 years ago, Tɔmkpe sat in a chemistry class taught by a Peace Corps Volunteer named Monty. The experience changed his perspective on the world, teaching him about determination, different cultures, and America.

Today, he’s come full circle — serving not once, but twice, as a counterpart to Volunteers in his Volta Region community. You’ll find him working side by side with Volunteer Declan on the farm, at school, and throughout the community.

Volunteer Declan hosted a hand washing demonstration and field day for JHS students in his community in the Volta Region with support from fellow Volunteers. Students moved through stations featuring math games, nutrition activities, color challenges, and jump rope games designed to keep them active, thinking, and having fun.

The day ended with music, dancing, and students laughing together beneath a giant parachute — a celebration of learning, teamwork, and community.

Pre-Service Training helps Trainees learn about cultural differences between the U.S. and Ghana through shared daily life with their communities.

This past training, Volunteer Seth brought his homestay family together and shared his favorite snack from home — chips and salsa with a Ghanaian twist! He turned kenkey, a classic Ghanaian fermented corn dough dish, into tortillas and used a green pepper sauce as salsa.

Volunteer Trey recently led a hands-on geometry activity using foam shapes with his math students at his school in the Oti Region.

The activity gave students the chance to explore shapes, problem solve, and make math more interactive and fun. Learning by doing helps bring classroom concepts to life all while having a great time doing it!
