LaDMA MARKS GHANA’S 69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH CALL FOR UNITY AND DEVELOPMENT

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly joined the rest of Ghana to celebrate the country’s 69th Independence Day with a colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the La Traditional Council (La Royal Palace).

The event brought together school children, security services, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, and members of the general public. It was held under the national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” which highlights the importance of national unity, economic growth, and a renewed commitment to improving the living conditions of citizens.

The celebration began with the arrival of dignitaries, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, the Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, The Municipal Education Director, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, and other invited guests. The ceremony officially commenced with the singing of the National Anthem and an opening prayer, followed by a march-past by participating groups.

Students from various Basic and Senior High School cadet represented as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Arm force and Ghana Navy service displayed impressive discipline, coordination, and patriotism during the parade, earning admiration from dignitaries and spectators.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei emphasized the significance of the national theme, calling on citizens to work collectively to strengthen the economy, promote accountability, and create opportunities that improve livelihoods. He stressed the need for integrity, hard work, respect for public property, support for local businesses, and the rejection of corruption.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to infrastructure development, sanitation improvement, youth empowerment, and local economic growth. He also highlighted the municipality’s educational achievements, particularly students who received Presidential BECE Awards in 2024 and 2025, including those from Garrison Junior High School and Christ the King School.

He further advised the youth to avoid cybercrime, substance abuse, and shortcuts to success, urging them instead to focus on education, discipline, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Residents were also encouraged to fulfill their civic responsibilities by paying taxes, maintaining sanitation, supporting local businesses, and protecting public infrastructure.

Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Member of Parliament for the constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, also addressed the gathering. She noted that independence goes beyond freedom and requires a shared responsibility to build and shape the nation’s future. She emphasized that true independence is reflected in strong institutions, community development, and opportunities for the younger generation.

She commended the hardworking people of La Dade-Kotopon—including fisherfolk, traders, teachers, and parents—for their role in community development. She also highlighted the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the La community while striving for progress.

Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah further stressed that education remains a key pillar for national development, praising outstanding students who excelled in the 2025 BECE, as well as teachers and parents for their dedication.

Awards were presented to schools and marching contingents that demonstrated outstanding performance during the parade. The selection was based on turnout, marching skills, discipline, and overall display. In the Senior High School category, St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School cadet emerged as the winner after an impressive representation of the Ghana Police Service during the march-past. In the Basic School category, St. Maurice Roman Catholic A & B Junior High School secured first place for their exceptional performance.

In his closing remarks, the MCE, Hon Alfredos Nii Anyetei expressed appreciation to the organizing committee, security agencies, schools, and all participants for contributing to the success of the celebration. He urged residents to continue to promote peace, unity, and active participation in the development of the municipality.

The event was widely regarded as successful, promoting patriotism, unity, discipline, and community participation, particularly among the youth.

LaDMA ELECTS A NEW PRESIDING MEMBER

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, successfully conducted the election of a new Presiding Member during a duly convened Assembly meeting. The exercise was peaceful, well coordinated, and demonstrated the Assembly’s commitment to democratic governance and unity.

Hon. Aaron Anang Akrong was unanimously elected as the new Presiding Member, securing fourteen (14) out of fourteen votes cast by Assembly Members present. His unanimous endorsement reflected the high level of confidence and trust reposed in his leadership abilities. Following the declaration of results, he was officially sworn into office by Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sekyi, marking the commencement of his tenure.

In his farewell address, the outgoing Presiding Member, Hon. Emmanuel Nyarko Baah, expressed his appreciation to Members of the Assembly for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure. He congratulated his successor and urged Assembly Members to continue to uphold unity and collaboration to ensure continuity in the work of the Assembly. He also highlighted key achievements recorded during his term and emphasized the importance of collective effort in advancing the Municipality’s development agenda.

The event was graced by the Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, who commended the Assembly for the smooth and successful conduct of the election. She encouraged Members to offer their full support to the newly elected Presiding Member to promote effective governance and accelerated development within the Municipality.

In his closing remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, warmly welcomed the new Presiding Member and pledged management’s full cooperation and support. He reaffirmed management’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the General Assembly and the Executive Committee in order to achieve the Assembly’s developmental and organizational objectives.

LaDMA Holds Staff Durbar to Strengthen Communication and Prepare Workforce for New Policy Direction

Staff of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly on Friday, 6th February 2026, converged at the forecourt of the Assembly for a Staff Durbar aimed at strengthening internal communication, promoting staff engagement, and preparing the workforce for the implementation of new policies later in the year.

The durbar formed part of management’s efforts to create an open and inclusive platform where staff could be briefed on upcoming policy directions and administrative reforms, while also freely sharing their concerns, challenges, and suggestions with leadership. The gathering sought to foster unity, transparency, and a shared sense of purpose among staff, in line with the Assembly’s strategic objectives.

The event was well attended and graced by key management and leadership figures, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Alfredos Nii Anyetei, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Siegfried Kwamw Addo, the Municipal Deputy Director, Mr Henry Asomah, as well as Heads of Departments and Units. Officers and staff from all departments were present, with total attendance estimated at about 150, reflecting strong interest and broad participation across the Assembly.

Proceedings began at 10:00 a.m. with an opening address by the Municipal Coordinating Director, who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the staff durbar as a forum for dialogue, collaboration, and collective problem-solving. This was followed by presentations outlining policy directions and administrative expectations for the year ahead.

During the open forum session, staff members raised several pertinent issues affecting their work and welfare. Among the key concerns were requests from Internally Generated Fund (IGF) staff regarding salary increments and promotion opportunities, welfare-related matters, workload distribution, and resource allocation. Some cleaner of the assembly also drew attention to challenges related to the improper use and maintenance of male washrooms. Other contributions touched on environmental management practices and the need to further strengthen community service delivery.

Responding to the concerns, the Municipal Coordinating Director provided clarifications and assurances and outlined proposed timelines for addressing the issues where applicable. The interactive exchange promoted transparency, enhanced mutual understanding, and reaffirmed management’s commitment to staff welfare and institutional improvement.

The durbar was further enlivened by a musical interlude from Mr. Abdul Majid Mohammed, a staff member of the budget and rating unit, whose captivating performance added a refreshing and uplifting atmosphere to the event, giving staff moments of relaxation and enjoyment.

In conclusion, the Staff Durbar was described as productive, inclusive, and timely. It successfully aligned staff with the Assembly’s vision and policy direction while addressing immediate concerns of the workforce. Management commended staff for their active participation and constructive contributions and expressed optimism about building on the outcomes of the durbar to enhance performance and service delivery in the year ahead.

MCE’S STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LA GONSE DRAINAGE PROJECT AT NEW LAKPANA ELECTORAL AREA

Residents of the New Lakpana Electoral Area on Monday, 16th February 2026, gathered at the Emmanuel Methodist Church, La Gonse, as the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly held a stakeholders’ engagement meeting to discuss plans for the construction of new drainage systems in the area.

The meeting, organized by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alfredos Nii Anyetei, was aimed at addressing the long-standing drainage and road infrastructure challenges that have affected residents, particularly recurrent flooding and its associated health and environmental risks. The engagement formed part of the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive governance and community participation in development planning.

In his address, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei announced plans for the construction of gutters and road networks within the Gonse enclave, covering communities from Base 222 to Ashi We. He explained that the project is expected to improve drainage flow, reduce perennial flooding, enhance accessibility, and significantly improve living conditions in the area. According to him, the initiative represents a major infrastructural milestone and a long-term solution to challenges residents have faced for years.

The Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and the Deputy Minister for Local Gorvernment Chieftency and Religious Affairs, Hon.Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, assured residents of strong collaboration between the community, the Municipal Assembly, and technical officers. She emphasized the importance of community involvement at every stage of the project to ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainability.

An open forum session allowed residents to share personal experiences of seasonal flooding, property damage, and health concerns linked to poor drainage. Participants suggested that the Assembly formally notify clan houses and property owners whose structures may be obstructing water flow. A resident, Madam Jessica Ash*tey, appealed to the Assembly to consider engaging community members in routine desilting, cleaning, and maintenance of gutters to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the proposed infrastructure.

The LaDMA Works Engineer, Mr. Okpoti, provided technical explanations on both short-term and long-term measures being planned to address the drainage situation. He assured residents that all concerns and suggestions raised would be carefully reviewed and integrated into the Assembly’s operational plans where feasible.

The meeting was well attended by residents, Assembly staff, opinion leaders, and other community members, who expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly and the Honourable Member of Parliament for the engagement and responsiveness. Participants highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue and active community participation in decision-making to achieve effective and sustainable development outcomes.

LaDMA Supports the Funeral of Late Nuumo Yemo Obroni VII

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, the Management of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), and the NDC Constituency Executives, present assorted items to the La State Council towards the funeral preparations of the late Nuumo Yemo Obroni VII (La Kpa Wulomo).

The presentation took place at the La State Council, where the delegation first paid a courtesy call on the Council before formally handing over the items. The gesture formed part of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting traditional authorities and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the municipality. The MP was unavoidably absent due to a national assignment.

In his address, the MCE, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, expressed the Assembly’s profound sorrow over the passing of the revered spiritual leader. He described the late Wulomo as a pillar of peace, unity, and tradition within the La community, whose leadership and spiritual guidance greatly strengthened communal harmony. He emphasized that the Assembly considered it both fitting and necessary to stand in solidarity with the La State Council and the bereaved family during this solemn period.

“This presentation signifies our deep respect for the La State Council and our recognition of the invaluable role the late Wulomo played in preserving our customs and promoting harmony within the municipality,” the MCE stated.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Council, the Acting Leader of the La State Council expressed heartfelt appreciation to the delegation for their timely support. He commended LaDMA for its continued collaboration with traditional authorities and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to working closely with the Assembly on key developmental initiatives.

The engagement further highlighted the strong and cordial relationship between LaDMA and the La State Council, reflecting a shared commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality.
