A significant milestone has been recorded under the Holistic Development for Visually Impaired Children (HODVIC) Programme as Parent Support Groups (PSGs) received a GHS 48,000 revolving fund to strengthen their livelihoods and improve the wellbeing of their families. The support, officially rolled out at Larteh in the Akuapem North District, marked a moment of joy and empowerment as beneficiaries celebrated the intervention with the familiar slogan β€œMinsaaka ooo!”

The revolving fund, provided through the partnership between Visio International and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Presbyterian Relief Services and Development (PRESED), is designed as a sustainable financial lifeline. It enables PSG members to access soft loans through their Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) to expand small enterprises, stabilise household income, and better care for their visually impaired children.

The initiative is coordinated by Mr. Jeremiah Badu Shayar, HODVIC Programme Coordinator, with Mr. Jan Till serving as Country Coordinator. Both emphasised that the fund is not merely financial support, but a long‑term empowerment tool aimed at transforming families and strengthening resilience.

Prior to the rollout, PRESED equipped the groups with livelihood skills training in soap making, bakery and confectionery, and value addition to agricultural products. These were complemented by financial literacy education and broader skills development sessions to ensure that beneficiaries are not only able to start income‑generating activities but sustain them effectively.

Programme leaders highlighted that the goal is holistic transformationβ€”helping families secure dignified livelihoods, build confidence, and provide consistent care for their children. The revolving fund therefore serves as both an economic and social support mechanism, reinforcing the capacity of PSGs to thrive.
