The United States of America, through the African Crisis Response Initiative (ACRI), has donated three Freightliner trucks to the Engineer Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Teshie, Accra. The donation is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces in carrying out critical engineering, construction, and humanitarian missions across the country.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, highlighted the strong and longstanding partnership between Ghana and the United States, particularly in the areas of military training, logistics support, capacity building, and security cooperation. He noted that the newly donated vehicles would improve the Armed Forces’ ability to respond effectively to emergencies, natural disasters, and other humanitarian situations.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Ghana, HE Rolf Olson, described the trucks as a symbol of the shared commitment between the two countries to strengthening institutional capacity, critical infrastructure, and long-term development.
Present at the occasion were; The Chief Director of MoD Mr Emmanuel Kartey, The Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Service Chiefs, distinguished generals, representatives from the United States Embassy, Officers, Men and some Defence Civilian Staff.

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, has inaugurated a 17-member committee to formulate the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Home Ownership Policy and Scheme at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.
The committee, chaired by the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO), Brigadier General Ben Gah, has been tasked with developing a comprehensive, equitable, and sustainable home ownership policy and scheme for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces. The proposed framework will subsequently be submitted to the Ministry’s Management, the Minister for Defence, and Cabinet for consideration.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration ceremony, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi expressed the Ministry’s appreciation to members of the committee for accepting the responsibility entrusted to them. He noted that the committee was carefully constituted based on the expertise and institutional knowledge of its members.
According to him, the quality of the committee’s work would reflect the seriousness and commitment with which members approach their assignment.
The Deputy Minister underscored the magnitude of the housing challenges confronting the Ghana Armed Forces, revealing that the military currently faces a housing deficit of approximately 14,000 units.
“Behind that figure are 14,000 families for whom the security of a home remains out of reach,” he stated.

The Deputy Defence Minister, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, has signed a Defence Cooperation Agreement with Jamaican authorities at the Third Session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) at the Foreign Affairs Ministry . The pact formally establishes a strategic partnership between the two nations focusing on counterterrorism initiatives, peacekeeping support and professional military training, while solidifying a shared commitment to regional and global security.


‎ The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, extended her profound gratitude to the government of Ghana. She lauded the humanity, swift response and structural professionalism displayed by the Ghana Armed Forces during the critical disaster recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

In his closing remarks, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), highlighting the progress in healthcare announced that the first batch of Ghanaian nurses will soon depart for Jamaica, marking a key milestone in the government’s long-term transatlantic diplomatic partnership.

‎The Defence Ministerial Advisory Board has held its maiden meeting at the Ministry of Defence to deliberate on key issues aimed at strengthening the operations and strategic direction of the Ministry.

‎Welcoming members of the Board, the Acting Minister for Defence, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, underscored government’s commitment to building a robust and effective Defence Ministry capable of responding to the country’s security needs.

‎The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, also presented a detailed overview of the Ministry’s current state of affairs, key priorities, ongoing projects and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Ministry.

‎The meeting served as a platform for members of the Board to provide expert advice and recommendations on policy formulation, administration, governance and matters relating to national defence and security.

The Ministry of Defence has organised a comprehensive eye screening exercise and insurance education programme for its staff in collaboration with Treasured Eye Care Centre and Prudential Life Insurance Ghana as part of efforts to promote the health, well-being and financial security of personnel. The Human Resources Director, Mrs Comfort Kyereme, noted that the initiative was aimed at helping staff maintain good vision and overall health while encouraging them to secure their future through insurance and proper financial planning.
The eye screening exercise provided staff with the opportunity to undergo professional eye examinations and receive education on proper eye care and the early detection of eye conditions. Representatives from Prudential Life Insurance Ghana also engaged staff on various insurance products and policies, including life protection, savings, investment and retirement plans designed to support workers and their families.

A delegation from the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) Global has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, at The Square.
The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Sir George Norton (Rtd), is in the country as part of their annual strategic study tour, which aims to analyze Ghana's defence architecture, regional security dynamics and socio-political landscape.
Later at the briefing session, Hon Brogya Genfi highlighted the enduring defence partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom. He provided an overview of the Ministry’s mandate and outlined government’s strategic efforts to ensure the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) remain robust, modern and highly equipped. He noted that emerging threats within the Sahel and the wider sub-region particularly regarding border security and escalating cybersecurity issue have prompted the government to implement proactive strategies as a preventive measure to emerging challenges.
The visit concluded with an interactive session where the course participants engaged the Deputy Minister an his principal staff officers in a comprehensive dialogue, spanning on a wide range of topics, including Ghana’s internal security mitigation frameworks, economic policies designed to empower the workforce among others.

‎The Camp Commandant of the Ministry of Defence, Flt Lt ANY Danquah, was among six female officers from the Ghana Armed Forces who successfully participated in the Women Military Officers Course held at the International Peace Support Training Centre in Karen–Nairobi, Kenya. The course sought to strengthen the tactical capabilities of women officers to enhance their effective contribution to peace operations within today’s complex Peace Support Operations environment.

‎It also aimed at equipping participants with the requisite knowledge, skills and professional attitude required for meaningful participation in the implementation of peace operations mandates. It focused on improving operational readiness and empowering women officers to confidently take up key roles in peacekeeping missions and related assignments.

‎A total of 37 female officers from six nations took part in the course, including 8 from Kenya, 10 each from Tanzania and Botswana, 2 from Zambia and 1 from Switzerland. The diverse composition of the participants promoted experience sharing, peer learning and cross-cultural understanding, which enriched the overall training experience.

‎Other Ghana Armed Forces officers who participated in the course were Maj R Oduro, Maj PNA Badger, Lt Cdr J Asamoah, Lt (GN) A Arthur and Flt Lt G Lamptey. All participants demonstrated high levels of commitment and professionalism throughout the course and were presented with certificates upon successful completion.

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi together with his team met with the Majority Chief Whip, Hon Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, as part of engagements held at the beginning of every Parliamentary session to discuss legislative proposals.Hon Dafeamekpor received the team on behalf of the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon Mahama Ayariga. The meeting formed part of efforts to brief the Majority Leader on key bills expected to be presented to Parliament during the session, including the National Defence University Ghana Bill, 2026.

‎During the engagement, Hon Brogya Genfi indicated that Cabinet has duly considered the memorandum and approved it for submission to Parliament for the necessary legislative action. The Bill, which is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, is intended to address the absence of a central coordinating authority by providing a unified institutional framework to coordinate, regulate and supervise all tertiary-level defence education and training within the Ghana Armed Forces. This will ensure consistency in academic standards, strengthen quality assurance systems and enable the award of degrees, diplomas and certificates under a single nationally recognized authority.

‎The team comprises the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Emmanuel Kartey; the Acting President of National Defence University, Air Vice Marshal Felix Adom Asante; Acting Judge Advocate General, Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah- Boakye; Director Public Relations, Colonel Ernestina Assan and the Director Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Madam Abena Ofosua Dankwa.
