The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO - Greater Accra, has partnered with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to launch the โ€œNO DO, NO DOโ€ Campaign, a 12-week public education and community engagement initiative focused on sanitation, behavioural change, and flood prevention.

The campaign comes at a critical time when blocked drains, improper waste disposal, and the misuse of waterways continue to worsen flooding in many communities, especially during the rainy season.

At the launch, the NADMO Regional Director, Hon. Dennis Adjannor Nartey, called for stronger collaboration among institutions, communities, and individuals in addressing flood-related risks. He stressed that while rainfall may be natural, the impact of flooding is often made worse by human activities.

Also speaking at the event, Ms. Emma Adwoa Appiah Osei-Duah of Zoomlion Ghana Limited reminded the public of the simple but important message of the campaign: โ€œDonโ€™t dump. Donโ€™t block. Let water flow.โ€

As part of the campaign, NADMO and Zoomlion will intensify public sensitisation, community engagement, drain desilting activities, and early warning education to help reduce flooding and protect lives and property.

NADMO urges the public to support this initiative by keeping our drains clear, disposing of waste responsibly, and avoiding activities that obstruct the free flow of water.

NO DO, NO DO
Prevention begins with all of us.

For the good of all, we kindly urge the public to desist from dumping solid waste into drains and from filling or building on wetlands, including all our Ramsar sites. Wetlands are NOT construction sites.

Protecting our drainage systems and wetlands is essential to reducing flooding and safeguarding our lives and property.

In this interview, the NADMO Regional Director, Hon. Dennis Nartey, addresses public concerns and clarifies the misconception that the danger is completely over simply because floodwaters have receded in some areas.

He explained that the situation remains under close monitoring, emphasizing that if water levels in the dam rise again, further spillage may be necessary to protect the dam's structural integrity.

He further noted that the recent improvement in the flooding situation is largely due to the additional space created at the estuary and the reduction in the number of inches of gates opened at the dam, which has enhanced water outflow.

NADMO urges all residents, especially those in flood-prone communities, to remain vigilant, follow official directives, and contact 112 in the event of any emergency.
