AUGUST IS FOOD AND DRINK MONTH!

Food is more than nourishment—it is a reflection of our history, identity, traditions, and way of life. Across Ghana, every region boasts unique dishes and beverages that tell the story of our rich and diverse cultural heritage.

This August, the National Commission on Culture (NCC) proudly celebrates Food and Drink Month, a time dedicated to appreciating, promoting, and preserving Ghana’s indigenous cuisines and traditional beverages.

From fufu, banku, kenkey, tuo zaafi, akple, and ampesi to refreshing local drinks such as sobolo, asamankese, asaana, and pito, our culinary heritage is a national treasure that deserves to be celebrated and passed on to future generations.

Throughout the month, we encourage Ghanaians to:
Support local food vendors and restaurants.
Promote the use of locally grown ingredients.
Learn and share traditional recipes with the younger generation.
Showcase your favourite Ghanaian meals and beverages on social media.
Celebrate the diversity that unites us through food.

As we embrace Food and Drink Month, let us take pride in our culinary traditions and continue to preserve the tastes, flavours, and stories that define Ghanaian culture.

Food brings people together. Culture gives it meaning.

Happy Food and Drink Month!
