It is interesting to hear that Parliament has been recalled. I pray Mr. President will use it as an opportunity to address the problematic portions of the new COCOBOD Bill, bring it back to Parliament for more deliberations and appropriate revisions to be made prior to any assent.

The IMF’s policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) may not require parliamentary approval because it comes without new financing, but that is no excuse to sideline Parliament or the Ghanaian people.

The government has a constitutional and democratic responsibility to brief Parliament on the programme’s policy commitments, implementation roadmap, and implications for the economy.

In particular we need to know its implications on growth and jobs as these are the key variables that matter to the Ghanaian people. Ghanaians deserve to know the reforms being undertaken in their name and to hold the government accountable for the outcomes.

Transparency and accountability must not end where legal requirements begin.
