Today, I had the honour of officially launching the Youth Climate Action Fund on behalf of the Agona West Municipal Assembly.

This vital initiative, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, aims to empower young people by supporting youth-led ideas and initiatives that address climate change while fostering a more sustainable and resilient future for our communities.

The launch signifies an important step in harnessing the creativity, innovation, and leadership of our youth to drive meaningful climate action at the local level. I am confident that through this fund, many impactful projects will develop to help protect our environment and enhance the lives of our people.

I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone whose hard work, dedication, and collaboration have made this programme possible. Your commitment has laid the groundwork for a brighter and greener future.

I also wish to express my heartfelt thanks to our traditional leaders, Heads of Departments, youth groups, development partners, stakeholders, and all distinguished guests who honoured us with their presence and support at the launch. Your participation reflects our shared commitment to climate action and sustainable development.

Together, let us continue to empower our youth, safeguard our environment, and build a more sustainable future for generations to come.

At Bloomberg CityLab 2026, Agona West Municipality was proudly announced as one of 300 cities worldwide selected to participate in the expanded Youth Climate Action Fund, and we could not be more ready to make the most of this opportunity.
This programme is about turning the energy and creativity of our young people into real, visible change in our communities. Through the YCAF, we are committed to helping a new generation of Agona West youth discover what it means to lead, to innovate, and to build trust in local government.
The Fund is open to young people aged 15 to 24 who have bold ideas across five key areas:
🌱 Climate change awareness, education and research
♻️ Sustainable waste management and recycling
🌾 Sustainable agriculture
🌳 Natural resource management and conservation
🛡️ Disaster risk preparedness and reduction
Selected youth will receive seed funding for their green projects, capacity building and mentorship, networking and exposure opportunities, as well as tools and resources to create real, measurable impact in their communities.

Sanitation Day To Be Observed In Agona West

On Monday, 11th May 2026, the Municipal Assembly held its first town hall meeting for the year at the Swedru Town Hall.

The purpose of the meeting was to account to the good people of the Agona West Municipality for the funds at the disposal of the Municipal Assembly.

I used the opportunity to outline to participants the projects being undertaken by the Municipal Assembly, as well as the challenges confronting us.

The Agona West Municipal Assembly remains committed to transparency, accountability, and probity, and we will continue to work tirelessly to enhance the development of the Municipality.

On Friday, 8th May 2026, the Management of the Municipal Assembly, Nana Nyarko Eku X, President of the Nyakrom Traditional Council, and Nana Kweku Essieni V, Regent of Agona Swedru, engaged the leadership of the Garages Association on their relocation to the Artisan Village.

After a fruitful discussion, the Garages Association promised to relocate to the Village by the end of 2026.

I would like to reiterate that the Municipal Assembly will continue its engagement with the Association to ensure their relocation.
