GNS PRU CREW PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL COMPETITION IN LAGOS

Sailors from Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) PRU participated in an international basketball competition held at the Nigerian Naval Dockyard Limited Sports Complex in Lagos. The event formed part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary which brought together personnel from the Nigerian Navy and foreign navies, involved in the ongoing International Fleet Review and Maritime Exercises.

The competition provided an avenue for sailors from GNS PRU to engage in sporting activities while strengthening professional ties and fostering interaction with personnel from the Nigerian and Ivorian Navies. It highlighted the role of sports in promoting friendship and cooperation among maritime forces.

To symbolise unity and camaraderie, sailors from the Nigerian Navy, GNS PRU and the Ivorian Navy Ship VAILLANCE were combined into a single pool before being divided into Teams A and B. Each team consisted of personnel from all 3 navies, reinforcing collaboration and mutual understanding among participants.

The match was keenly contested, showcasing remarkable teamwork, skill, determination and sportsmanship. At the end of the game, Team B emerged winners after delivering an impressive performance throughout the competition.

Representing the Chief of Naval Staff of the Nigerian Navy, Vice Admiral Iddi Abass, the Flag Officer Commanding Nigerian Naval Logistics Command, Rear Admiral Abiyodo Alade, commended participants for their professionalism and sportsmanship. He noted that the involvement of Ghanaian and Ivorian sailors added value to the anniversary celebrations and reaffirmed the importance of sports in strengthening friendship, teamwork and international military cooperation.
