Turning Loss into Legacy

On behalf of Sustainable Food Systems Frontiers (SFSF), and Farmers Market Network, Ghana (GhanaFMN), we join the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight dedicated public servants who perished in the recent helicopter crash in the Adansi-Akrofuom District, Ashanti Region. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, the Government of Ghana, and all Ghanaians grieving this painful loss.
These were men who served with diligence, courage, and commitment to the nation. The most fitting way to honour their memory is not with words alone, but with decisive, lasting action to protect the very resources they worked to safeguard.
We cannot, and must not, allow this tragedy to fade into the long list of national sorrows. Let this be a turning point to end the environmental terrorism of illegal mining and defend the food systems that feed our people and sustain our economy.
Our soils are the bedrock of food security. Our rivers are the lifeblood of rural livelihoods. When they are destroyed, the very foundations of life crumble. If we do not act now, the next generations will inherit a barren, poisoned land.
We stand in solidarity with all partners committed to building a healthy, safe, and sustainable future; one in which Ghana’s natural resources are preserved, our food systems are resilient, and our people thrive.
May their sacrifice remind us that the fight for our environment is the fight for our survival.
May their legacy be a greener, safer Ghana for all.
