Below is a message sent by Ewurabena Hutchful to working committee members of Friends of UNHCR across all Institutions in Ghana:
Dearest Friends,
On Monday, the Friends of UNHCR Chapter at University of Cape Coast
brought smiles to the faces of hundreds of Ivorian children and their
families at the Egyeikrom Refugee Camp.
Some 20 members of the UCC Chapter visited Egyeikrom to donate over 800
textbooks, some French-English literature, stationery, and clothing to
the asylum seekers.
The generous contribution was the product of months of tireless
advocacy under the UCC Chapter's 1 Goal Project which was launched in
December 2011 in support of UNHCR's 1 Campaign.
Photos and videos of the donation will soon be uploaded onto the UNHCR
Ghana website.
The donation was truly heartwarming and a touching reminder of how
fortunate we are to have Friends, advocates, and supporters like the UCC
students.
During the visit, the UCC students toured Egyeikrom Camp and interacted
with asylum seekers; even striking new friendships with fellow student
activists on the camp.
UCC Chapter, we eagerly await what exciting activities will be borne
from your collaboration with the Ivorian student group. There is no
doubt that it will be impressive and in the best interest of the
displaced people we aim to serve.
On behalf of the UNHCR Representative, a million thanks to you for your
graciousness and zeal.
Warmest Regards,
Ewurabena
