Ketu North Hosts Health Minister for Inspection of Ongoing Health Kiosk Project at Jesime Market
As part of the Government of Ghana's flagship Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) programme, the Hon. Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, paid a working visit to Ketu North Municipality to inspect the progress of work on the ongoing construction of the Health Kiosk at Jesime Market in Dzodze.
The Minister was accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Directors from the Ghana Health Service Headquarters, the Volta Regional Director of Health Service and members of the Regional and Municipal Senior Management Teams. Also present were the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director.
As the Municipal Director of Health Service for Ketu North, I had the honour of receiving the delegation and leading the Hon. Minister and his entourage on a tour of the facility to assess the progress and quality of work.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of construction and commended all stakeholders involved in the project. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the timely completion of the facility so that it can begin delivering essential primary health care services to the people, particularly traders and residents around the market enclave.
Following the inspection, Hon. Mintah Akandoh interacted with market women and members of the community, where he explained the objectives and benefits of the Free Primary Health Care initiative. He called on the public to embrace and support the programme, describing it as a key government intervention aimed at improving access to quality health care for all Ghanaians.
The Health Kiosk at Jesime Market forms part of efforts to strengthen primary health care delivery and bring essential health services closer to communities in line with the Government's commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The Ketu North Municipal Health Directorate successfully held its 2025 Annual Performance Review at the Directorate’s Conference Hall. The meeting brought together key stakeholders in health, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), chiefs and queen mothers from Dzodze, representatives from partner institutions, and a cross-section of staff from all health facilities across the municipality. Their participation demonstrated a shared commitment to advancing quality health care in Ketu North.
In his welcome address, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr. Abubakari Sumaila Gariba, highlighted some modest achievements recorded by the Directorate during the year under review. He also outlined critical challenges affecting the delivery of quality health care, with particular emphasis on the lack of water and electricity at the Deme/Tornu CHPS compound. He noted that these basic utility challenges have hindered the full operationalization of the facility despite its importance to the community.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, in his remarks, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving health coverage across the municipality. He cited the completion of the Kuli CHPS compound and the ongoing construction of two additional CHPS facilities in the Wuti and Adzoatsi electoral areas. The MCE commended health workers for their dedication and urged them to continue working diligently to enhance service delivery.
Several dignitaries delivered goodwill messages to the health workforce, with a common emphasis on the need for strengthened collaboration among stakeholders. The Queen Mother of Ablorme invited the Health Directorate to partner with her foundation to address declining family planning acceptor rates and the rising incidence of teenage pregnancy in the municipality.
The Public Relations Officer of the Municipal Education Directorate also appealed for improved collaboration in school health services, particularly in school-based immunization activities. The Municipal Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) encouraged health workers to provide deserving and quality services to NHIS clients, stressing that they remain key stakeholders in the scheme. He further reminded staff of NHIS’ continuous monitoring visits to health facilities to ensure that client interests are protected.
The Volta/Oti Regional Director of HeFRA joined the programme and delivered a message on regulatory activities within the region. He appealed to health workers to support the Authority in eliminating quack practitioners from the system. He also cautioned staff against lending their professional licenses to unregistered facilities, warning that they may face serious consequences if such facilities violate regulatory standards.
The review also featured presentations from hospitals and unit heads at the Directorate, alongside the Holistic Assessment Performance report.
In his closing remarks, the Municipal Health Director expressed appreciation to all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions, noting that their inputs would guide the Directorate in planning for improved health outcomes in the coming year.
