ASUNAFO NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS SECOND ORDINARY MEETING OF THE THIRD SESSION OF THE EIGHTH ASUNAFO NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Joseph Akparibo, in his third sessional address at the second Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly highlighted the progress of the Assembly in revenue mobilisation, education, agriculture, infrastructure development and community engagement, while calling for greater commitment from Assembly Members and Heads of Department to accelerate development in the Municipality.
In his address on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Hon. Akparibo said the Assembly remained committed to improving service delivery and the living conditions of residents.
He commended the Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of department and other technocrats for their dedication and contribution towards the development of the Municipality.
Peace and Security
On peace and security, the MCE said the Municipality continued to enjoy relative peace through the collaborative efforts of traditional authorities, security agencies, Assembly Members and other stakeholders.
He, however, noted that, there had been the occurrence of isolated cases of petty stealing, drug abuse and other social vices in the Municipality.
He disclosed that a group of persons had recently been arrested for allegedly smuggling 300 bags of cocoa believed to have come from Côte d’Ivoire. He said the matter had been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and appropriate action.
Hon. Akparibo assured the House that the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), in collaboration with Nananom and other stakeholders, would continue to work to safeguard peace and security in the Municipality.
Community Engagement
The MCE also highlighted the Assembly’s efforts to promote participatory governance through direct engagement with residents.
He said he had embarked on a community engagement exercise with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Haruna Mohammed, and some Heads of Department to interact with residents, understand their concerns and explain government and Assembly programmes.
He said communities visited included Kofifofiekrom, Gyasikrom, Mfemah, Anwianwia, Kwayiekrom, Abebrese, Nyankomago and Kojo Addai, among others.
According to him, the exercise was successful and would be sustained to strengthen the relationship between the Assembly and the people.
MCE Calls for Punctuality
Hon. Akparibo expressed concern over lateness and non-punctuality by some Assembly Members and Heads of Department at sub-committee and Assembly meetings.
He appealed to members and officials to demonstrate discipline by attending meetings on time, stressing that effective participation was essential to the smooth functioning of the Assembly.
Revenue Performance
Touching on revenue mobilisation, the MCE said revenue remained critical to the Assembly’s ability to provide services and implement development programmes.
He disclosed that Management had engaged revenue collectors to identify their concerns, which would be considered in the Assembly’s subsequent budget.
He added that some National Service Personnel had also been engaged to collect data on revenue items to support the effective utilisation of the District-Level Revenue (DL-Rev) software.
According to the MCE, the data collection exercise had commenced in Goaso and would cover all communities in the Municipality.
He disclosed that the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF) performance for the first and second quarters of 2026 stood at GH¢2,772,272.51, representing 52.37 per cent of the annual target of GH¢5,293,191.34.
He noted that the 52.37 per cent mid-year achievement was above the expected 50 per cent target, although revenue areas such as rent and fees had performed below expectation.
Hon. Akparibo expressed optimism that the Assembly could achieve its annual revenue target if the current efforts were sustained.
DACF Releases
The MCE further disclosed that the Assembly had received GH¢4,096,392.60 in District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocations for the fourth quarter of 2025.
He added that the Assembly had also received GH¢3,469,839.04 and GH¢3,950,719.82 for the first and second quarters of 2026 respectively.
He said the funds, together with the Assembly’s IGF, were being used to implement projects and programmes contained in the 2026 Annual Action Plan and Budget.
Hon. Akparibo commended the government for releasing the funds promptly to support development activities in the Municipality.
Education
In the area of education, the MCE announced that the Assembly had procured 648 pieces of metal dual furniture for basic schools through the DACF.
The items included 368 metal dual desks, 100 metal mono desks, 80 sets of hexagonal tables and chairs, and 10 metal teachers’ tables and chairs.
He appealed to the Municipal Education Directorate and school authorities to ensure that the furniture was properly maintained.
He also disclosed that, through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Ahafoman Senior High Technical School, Mim Senior High School, Fawoheyeden Vocational School and the Technology Solution Centre had received 1,000, 600, 200 and 200 mono desks respectively.
On the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Hon. Akparibo said preliminary information from the Municipal Education Directorate indicated that a candidate from Kasapin M/A Junior High School had reportedly obtained six ones.
He said the Assembly was awaiting the official statistics from the Municipal Education Directorate before providing the House with detailed results.
Agriculture
The MCE also reiterated the importance of agriculture to Ghana’s economic development, particularly in the areas of employment, food security, industrial growth and export development.
He disclosed that the government, through the Assembly, had distributed 2,500 bags of fertiliser to farmers in the Municipality to support agricultural production.
He urged farmers and residents to take advantage of government interventions aimed at improving agricultural productivity.
Infrastructure Development
On physical infrastructure, Hon. Akparibo said several development projects were at various stages of completion across the Municipality.
Among the projects are the construction of CHPS compounds at Goaso-Dechem and Fianko, which are both 80 per cent complete.
The construction of a two-unit KG classroom block at Mim-Abrebrese DA Primary School is 70 per cent complete, while a three-unit classroom block at Goaso Islamic School is also 70 per cent complete.
A three-unit classroom block and toilet facility at the Assemblies of God Junior High School in Goaso is 70 per cent complete, while a 10-seater water closet toilet facility at Goaso Methodist Basic School is 75 per cent complete.
The MCE further disclosed that an ongoing six-unit classroom block at Mpamase DA Primary School had reached 85 per cent completion, while a two-unit KG classroom block at Mim Bonkoni D/A Primary School was 75 per cent complete.
He also announced that the drilling of boreholes in 12 communities had been completed. The project comprised six mechanised boreholes and six hand-pump boreholes.
24-Hour Economy Market
Hon. Akparibo announced that the Asunafo North Municipality had been selected to benefit from the government’s 24-hour economy market programme.
He said the project site had been handed over to the contractor for work to commence, describing the initiative as an important intervention to boost productivity, create jobs and improve livelihoods.
He expressed appreciation to the traditional authorities in Goaso for releasing land for the project and called on all stakeholders to support its successful implementation.
Executive Committee Recommendations
The MCE also presented key recommendations from the Executive Committee meeting held on August 4, 2026, for consideration by the General Assembly.
Among the recommendations was the consideration and approval of the 2026 revised mid-year Composite Annual Action Plan and Composite Budget.
Key interventions under the revised plan include the purchase of an ambulance engine for the Municipal Ambulance, clearing and delivery of medical equipment, procurement of an oxygen plant for the Goaso Municipal Hospital and mattresses for students of Mim SHS whose dormitory was destroyed by fire.
The Executive Committee also recommended that the Regional MTTD Police Commander be co-opted onto the Justice and Security Sub-Committee to provide technical guidance on motor, transport and traffic-related matters.
Other recommendations included improved collaboration between Assembly Members and Management in the installation of streetlights, clear identification and embossment of Assembly DRIP machines to promote accountability, and stronger participation of traditional authorities and Assembly Members in monthly community clean-up exercises.
The Committee further recommended support for the re-fabrication of the COCOBOD fuel tank to improve the efficiency of the Municipal Cocoa Mass Spraying exercise, as well as public education by veterinary officers on proper animal management and disease control.
Call for Collective Commitment
In conclusion, Hon. Akparibo thanked Nananom, Assembly Members, heads of department, staff and other stakeholders for their contribution to the development needs of the Asunafo North Municipality.
