On February 18-19, 2026, officials from the Fisheries Commission, (National and Regional) together with partners Henos Energy and Milton Systems Limited, paid courtesy calls on the Chief Executives of South Dayi and Kpando Assemblies respectively as well as the Community Leaders of Dzemeni and Kpando Torkor to inform them of the Socioeconomic Survey and LPG Outboard Motor piloting ongoing in the communities.
Additionally, Focus group discussions with selected fishers in both communities were held to assess their insight or familiarity of the LPG-powered outboard motor and also participate in the pilot testing and data collection exercise.

📍Familiarization visit

The Deputy Executive Director (General Services), Dr. Eric Cobbinah, the Chief Accountant, and the Head Office Finance Office team visited the Volta Regional Office (Ho) on 25th July 2025. The visit was to monitor financial activities, compliance assessment, and improve internal fins controls.
Dr. Cobbinah also spoke with staff regarding operational issues and reiterated Management's commitment to improving working conditions and support.

CELEBRATING WORLD OCEANS DAY 2025: A CALL FOR SUPPORT AND COLLABORATION TO OBSERVE THE CLOSED SEASON

Today, the Fisheries Commission joins the Environmental Protection Authority and global community to commemorate the World Oceans Day (8th June) under the theme “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” a national call to “Preserving our oceans, protecting our future.” This year's theme resonates deeply with our commitment to sustainable fishing practices and the protection of our marine environment.

The ocean fills us with awe, being a source of wonder, beauty, and power. But more than that, it sustains our lives: it ensures food security by feeding our people and supporting the livelihoods of fisherfolk across the nation.

The Fisheries Commission wants to use this opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our fisherfolk in the vital role they play in sustaining Ghana’s blue economy and food security. However, there are urgent threats facing our marine environment: pollution, overfishing, habitat degradation, and climate change.

In commemorating this Day, we urge all fisherfolk to observe the closed season, embrace sustainable fishing practices and work collaboratively with the Fisheries Commission to safeguard our marine resources.

We can do this by:
i. Practicing responsible fishing (industrial and semi-industrial vessels observe the closed season and our artisanal fishers abstain from all illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing practices)
ii. Preventing plastic and waste from entering the sea
iii. Supporting actions that combat climate change
iv. Educating and engaging coastal communities
Together, we can ensure that the oceans that sustain us today will continue to do so for generations to come.
Protect the wonder. Preserve the future.

On 15/06/2025, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, alongside the Volta Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission and team, paid a working visit to Fish and Feed Ltd. at Agortaga, Dabala in the South Tongu District.
The team was warmly received by the Farm Director, who took them on a tour and shared insights into the company's operations, challenges, and contributions to local aquaculture.
