Successful Two-Day Clean-Up Exercise Completed!
In line with the President’s directives on sanitation and environmental cleanliness, NADMO Ayawaso East successfully carried out a two-day intensive clean-up exercise in collaboration with the NADMO Head Office, Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, and other dedicated stakeholders.
The exercise covered:

Kanda Highway
Nima Roundabout
Nima Community and its environs
37 Hospital through to Flagstaff House

Our teams worked tirelessly to desilt drains, clear rubbish, and restore cleanliness to the area. This is a significant step towards a healthier and safer community.
A big THANK YOU to all residents, youth groups, market women, transport operators, and volunteers who came out in their numbers to support this important national exercise. Your commitment and hard work made it a success!
Together, we are building a cleaner Nima and a better Ghana!

Sensitization Program Successfully Held
The Ayawaso East NADMO Operation Team, together with Management, today 22nd June 2026, engaged the NIMA Seamstress and Tailors Association in a very impactful sensitization programme.
We discussed critical issues relating to flooding and fire outbreaks, and shared practical preventive measures to help protect lives, properties, and businesses from disasters.
Key messages were delivered on:

Early warning signs
Proper waste management to prevent flooding
Fire safety practices in our workspaces and homes
Emergency response and preparedness

Prevention Pays! Let us all take these messages seriously and act responsibly in our communities. Together, we can reduce disaster risks and build a safer Ayawaso East.

NADMO Ayawaso East Takes Proactive Steps Against Flooding
As part of efforts to ensure safety during the rainy season, the Ayawaso East Municipal NADMO, under the leadership of Municipal Director Yusif Kamaludeen, together with Municipal Chief Executive Abdul Ganiu Ibrahim and the Municipal Director of Physical Planning, embarked on a comprehensive monitoring exercise of flood-prone areas.

Fire Outbreak at Nima Market
Accra, May 12, 2026 — Reports emerged yesterday evening of a fire outbreak at Nima Market in Accra.
The fire reportedly started around 10:00 pm and raged until approximately 12:00 am before being brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service and other emergency responders.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage. He expressed concern over the incident, assured affected traders of the Assembly’s support, and commended the swift efforts of the fire service personnel and other emergency responders.

The Ayawaso East District operations team of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has also carried out follow-up assessments. Their team is gathering data on the damage, identifying immediate needs, and preparing recommendations to prevent future occurrences

Ayawaso East Nadmo to intensify education on fire prevention and improve infrastructure to reduce such risks.

The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has paid a courtesy call on the Director General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), at the organisation’s headquarters in Accra following his assumption of office as the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between institutions and the community, enhancing disaster preparedness and response and exploring opportunities for projects of mutual benefit to the constituency.
Major Dr. Kuyon (Rtd) emphasised the need for stronger partnerships to support community development and disaster resilience. He raised concerns about encroachment around the organisation’s premises and called for a peaceful, consultative approach with community stakeholders to address the issue.
The Director General also called for support to expand and refurbish NADMO’s clinic to improve healthcare delivery for staff and the surrounding communities.
Hon. Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed described Ayawaso East as the “Star Constituency” due to the presence of several key national institutions. He expressed his commitment to supporting the expansion and refurbishment of NADMO’s clinic.
The Hon. MP also commended NADMO’s swift response during the recent building collapse at the Accra Newtown Experimental School and reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that promote community welfare and cooperation.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Director General in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr. Luftia Saeed Jamal; the Deputy Director General in charge of Operations, Hon. Teddy Addi-Safori and the Deputy Director General in charge of Technical Services, Mr. Ahmed-Rufai Aggudey.
