Abuakwa South Municipal proudly commemorated World Malaria Day at Maase Sub-Municipal to reaffirm our commitment to the fight against malaria. The theme for the celebration is driven to end malaria; now we can. Now we must!

The commemoration started with a float by school children, teachers, some community members, and health professionals through the main street of Maase town.

The event focused on raising awareness about prevention, early detection, and proper treatment of malaria. Health professionals engaged the community through education sessions, while key interventions such as the promotion of insecticide-treated nets and environmental cleanliness were emphasized.

Residents were encouraged to take simple but effective steps in sleeping under treated nets, keeping their surroundings clean, and seeking early medical care to protect themselves and their families.

The Presbyterian basic school children performed a role play on malaria infection of a family who do not sleep under treated mosquito nets. There was also a cultural display by the children.

Together, we can create a healthier, malaria-free Abuakwa South Municipal.

We joined the global community in commemorating the 2026 World TB Day, with this year’s observance held at Asikam in the Kyebi Sub-Municipality.

The event was celebrated under the theme: “Yes, We Can End TB — Led by Countries, Powered by People.”

The commemoration was honoured by the presence of the Chief and elders of Asikam, whose support added dignity and significance to the occasion.
The primary aim of the event was to raise public awareness of tuberculosis and to enhance the Directorate’s TB case detection rate.

As part of the activities, screening exercises were conducted to further strengthen TB prevention and control efforts across the municipality. These screenings offered community members the opportunity to be assessed and educated on the importance of early detection.

Adding a creative and educational dimension to the celebration, pupils from Asikam Presby Primary School delivered poetic recitals on TB, highlighting the impact of the disease and the collective responsibility in combating it.

We acknowledge the support of our Traditional Leaders, Unit Committee members, Asikam Presby Primary School and all staff for the successful commemoration.

Holistic assessment exercise for 2025 at the sub-municipal levels ends.
This is one of the steps towards service improvement through a comprehensive assessment of service delivery at the facility level, in accordance with sector objectives.

This exercise served as a platform for facilities to assess themselves using an adapted version of the GHS holistic assessment tool.

It captured delightful moments of peer teaching and learning of best practices by both host and assessor facilities, with the support of the Directorate.

Through this exercise, many strengths have been identified for replication, innovations for nurturing, and necessary supports are being rallied to improve identified areas of weakness. This has further provided a more scientific basis for rewarding the best-performing facilities at the different levels of service delivery.

The Directorate appreciates the commitment and efforts of all staff, which made this maiden replication of the GHS holistic assessment at the facility level successful.
