The Regional Directorate is currently participating in the ongoing 52nd Annual General Conference and Meeting of the Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP) in being held in Koforidua.

The theme for the conference is "Collaborative Infrastructure Planning for Sustainable Human Settlements Development.

The chairman of today's sitting is Nana Dr. Michael Kwabena Agyekum Addo, the owner of K**a Group and the Benkumhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area. He represented the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Dasebre Kwaku Boateng III.

Hon. Martin Kwaku Adjei Mensah korsah, MP for Techiman South Constituency and the deputy minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural development graced the occasion as a special guest of honour on behalf of the Hon. Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Dan Botwe.

Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the CEO of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Ing. James Amoo Gottfried, the Director of the Department of Urban Roads delivered their presentations on the theme of the conference.

Other Key dignitaries include the president of Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, President of Ghana Institute of Architect, President of Ghana Chamber of Construction and Industry, and Head of component of PAIRed at GIZ, rep from Ghana Institution of Engineering, rep from Ghana Institution of Surveyors who delivered their goodwill messages to the institute.

Five Planning Officers of the regional directorate in the person of Mr. Prince Andosah, Mr. Seth Acheampong, Mr. Richard Addo-Tham, Mr. Frederick Asante, and Mr. Samuel Oti Boakye will be inducted as Members of the Institute tomorrow 17th November, 2023.

The second week of our regional monitoring visit to the various MMDAs in the Eastern Region started yesterday 13th November 2023.

Yesterday, the monitoring team visited the Achiase District Assemby at Achiase and Birim South Municipal Assembly at Akim Oda.

Today, 14th November 2023, the team visited Denkyembour District Assembly in Akwatia and Kwaebibirem District Assembly.

The monitoring team met the management of the various District/Municipal Assemblies including the the Districts/Municipal Chief Executives and Co-Ordinating Directors

The consolidated effect our regional monitoring is geared toward creating an enabling environment for the Physical Planning Department of the various MMDAs to better perform their spatial planning functions in line with Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 925 of 2016 and L.I 2384 of 2019.

The first week of our Regional Monitoring visit on the Spatial Planning activities of the various Districts and Municipal Assemblies ended today, 10th November, 2023.

Yesterday, as part of Day -4 activities, the monitoring team led by Planning Officer Mr. Richard Addo-Tham, and flanked by Planners Mr. Emmanuel Osei and Mr. Frederick Asante visited Birim North District Assembly (New Abirem) and Akyemansa District Assembly (Ofoase).

Today, 10th November 2023, the team visited the the Birim Central Municipal Assembly (Akim Oda) & Asene Manso District Assembly (Manso).

The monitoring team met the management of the various District/Municipal Assemblies including the the Districts/Municipal Chief Executives and Co-Ordinating Directors

Preliminary key findings from our monitoring indicates that the various Assemblies are plagued with cascading logistical constraints in performing their spatial planning functions in line with Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 925 of 2016 and L.I 2384 of 2019.

The monitoring continues on 13th November 2023 at the remaining Districs/Municipals in the region.

The regional monitoring team on today 8th November 2023 visited the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly (Nkawkaw) and Atiwa East District Assembly(Anyinam) as part of Day -3 monitoring on the activities of spatial planning in the Eastern Region and how the various Assemblies are complying with the Land Use and Spatial Plannng Act 925 of 2016 and Land Use and Spatial Plannng Regulation LI 2384 of 2019.

The monitoring team is led by Mr. Richard Addo-Tham, accompanied by Messrs. Emmanuel Osei and Frederick Asante; all Planning Officers of the Authority.

The Regional directorate participated in an inter service and inter sectoral Collaboration meeting of the Eastern Regional Co-Ordinating Council (RCC) held today, 8th November 2023 at the Conference Hall of the Eastern Regional Co-Ordinating Council.

The meeting was organized by the Eastern Region RCC in line with section 198 sub section 6 of the Local Government Act 936 of 2016

The meeting was chaired by Mr. John A. Donkor, the Chief Director of the RCC on behalf of the Hon. Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong.

Mr. Prince Andosah, a Planning Officer of the Authority represented the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority-Eastern Region .

Various presentations were made by some selected Departments, Units, and other Public Sector agencies in the Eastern Region.

The Community Water & Sanitation Agency, Births and Death Department, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ministry of Trades & Industry, Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority and Youth Employment Agency were the selected institutions that made presentations on their activities performed so far in 2023 and how they have met their targets.

Day - 2 of our Regional Monitoring visit on spatial planning activities of the various MMDAs and how they are complying with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 925 of 2016, and Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulation L.I 2384, of 2019 took us to the Kwahu East (Abetifi) and Kwahu South (Mpraeso) District Assemblies.

As part of our mandate of creating an enabling environment for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to better perform their spatial planning functions, the regional directorate is currently embarking on a Month-long Monitoring visit to all the 33 Districts/Municipal Assemblies of the Eastern.

The regional monitoring commenced yesterday 6th November 2023 at the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South districts (Donkorkrom & Tease).

Our purpose is to monitor and collect data on spatial planning activities of the Municipals, Districts Assemblies (MDAs) and how they are complying with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 925 of 2016, and Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulation L.I 2384, of 2019.

The Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) was established with the promulgation of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 925 of 2016 of Ghana. LUSPA replaced the erstwhile Town and Country Planning Department (TCPD) of Ghana which had existed since 1945.

LUSPA operate as a National and Regional level authority. We are a Public sector authority under Ghana's Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development.

Our core mandate is ensuring judicious use of land and creating an enabling environment for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to better perform their spatial planning functions, focus on standards and compliance of planning laws, regulations and policies.

Here in the Eastern region, we are located in Koforidua, directly opposite Koforidua SSNIT building or adjacent the Koforidua Passport Office/Old PWD Building.
